Boyko can go to Hartford, I thought he had 1 year left of Juniors? He had 4 junior years. Maybe. Garand or Boyko starts in ECHL? Good depth to have in the future if they amount to anything at the pro level.
Unless CapFriendly has it wrong, Boyko isn't even under contract yet. I assume he's going back to Kelowna, but maybe they want to get a look at him against AHL competition.

Kelowna has already played a game. Their 2nd game is tomorrow night.

Boyko will be 20 in a couple weeks and has also played 4 seasons in the WHL. He is eligible for the AHL. However, he is not under contract to the Rangers, and is likely just being assigned to camp for a week or so to get some work in with the coaches until he goes back to Kelowna. It's also conceivable he signs an AHL deal, but he'll see a lot more action with Kelowna that he would in the AHL or (more likely) the ECHL.

What were the lines for the group from earlier today not playing in the game tonight?

Panarin - Trocheck - Kravtsov | Vesey - Goodrow - Brodzinski
Cuylle - Carpenter - Reaves | Hunt - Rydahl - Pajuniemi
Miller - Trouba | Jones - Schneider | Tinordi - Emerson
Halak |Domingue

since they gave Elson a game, i thought maybe they'd give Smith a game

they likely begin waiving eligible guys tomorrow or Saturday -
UPDATE THESE GUYS WERE WAIVED TODAY CF tweet embedded below: Smith, Elson perhaps soonest,
eventually Welinski, Tinordi, Domingue, Gettinger, J.Brodz

(yeah i know some posters,
especially a few, recently very active, whose alias's end in '94'
expect (want) waivers on Hunt Gauth, Carpenter, Hajek
IMHO I do not expect that to happen, except possibly Gauth )

I love your posting, but sometimes you post false stuff for the fun of it (not sure if I am mistaken in this case), and that got to stop! :nono::madfire::badidea: ;)

Man, just when I was convinced they were seriously considering Brodzinski for a roster spot :sarcasm:

He didn't look good at all. Jones is better. The only thing Robertson has on Jones is size. But the Rangers have plenty of big D, physical D. Jones brings something else they need.
Robertson didn't look that bad. He can make a good first pass. He was partnered with an AHL player.

The Rangers saddled Lundkvist with Nemeth and Lundkvist looked awful. Lundkvist looks better in Dallas playing with Miro and Lindell. His defensive play is still a work in progress. The Rangers brought in Nemeth to help Lundkvist. Nemeth was so bad that the Rangers were afraid to play him in the playoffs and traded away two potential 2nd round picks to move the contract.

One game?

Jones had trouble defending against some of the Islanders AHLers.

The Rangers need to address their D at the trading deadline.

One game? NHL preseason games are awful. One game?

What you're saying isn't untrue.

They're giving Jones the opportunity. If he doesn't hold the spot Robertson can be recalled.

This isn't like the forward situation where Gallant is blocking our #1 and #2 overall picks from upward progression by prioritizing Blais and Trocheck.

At least Jones vs Robertson is two young players competing for a spot on D. There's no one else blocking them for now. Remember McDonagh and Girardi spent time in Hartford. Girardi was there for nearly two seasons.

Why didn't the Rangers give Robertson more than one preseason game? I know Hartford is beginning training camp but one game?

I don't get it either. I didn't get to see him at all, to make any assumption on his progress.

We can only hope, that he is to play top D in Hartford, cash in on big time minutes and roles.

He'll come up at some point this season. Injuries will happen.

Could have been the plan all along with Robertson. Maybe they really liked him after last year and what they've seen from him over the summer. The plan was to have him spend some more time in Hartford and then be the first call up. They gave him a game, it confirmed their opinions of him, so they send him to Hartford to let him start getting ready for that.

Personally I'd have let him get another game at least, but I don't know that it's a bad sign that they only gave him one. Could just be part of the original plan. Who knows.

I don't think it was based on just one game, I think it was based on all last season in Hartford. I think he will eventually be a solid player, but he needs more time to develop. Let's let him earn top pair minutes in the AHL before we start writing him into the NHL line up.

The Rangers are going to Rhode Island after the game tonight. Gallant wants the last two preseason games to be a dress rehearsal for the season. The Rangers will make more cuts soon. Would it have really hurt them to give Robertson a 2nd game? No.

The last two spots on D will be Jones and Hajek.
