are you sure?

He's regressed quite badly from his heyday of course and I'm not a huge fan of his overall game now (one of the few players who played that much to not record a primary assist)but he still put the puck in the net last year more than most people realized (less so after the injury of course).

Back to Muzzin-Holl….. blah

Liljegren gonna get left out again for no reason. Dude couldn’t have looked better this pre-season so far

Pretty sure this is close to the roster playing Monday. If Monday happens and they keep Holl and Muzzin together then I would start to take note of it.

i can't find him on that leaderboard.

Why do you think Lilly has to crack the top defensive matchup pairing in order to make the team?

If Liljegren makes the team he is not starting the year with Muzzin. It’s a sheltered bottom pair and what he does with that will be up to him.

i can't find him on that leaderboard.

Goals/60 last year:

1. Simmonds: .92
2. Laine: .90
3. Mantha: .89
4. Backstrom: .88
5. Suzuki: .88
6. Konecny: .83
8. Kuznetsov: .79
9. Benn: .71
10. Kopitar: .66

Ritchie - Matthews - Marner
Bunting - Tavares - Nylander
Kase - Kerfoot - HoSang
Mik - Kampf - Spezza
Simmonds

Rielly - Brodie
Muzz - Holl
Sandin - Dermott
Liljegren

Mrazek/Campbell

They really shouldn't though. Liljegren has been better than Holl and Sandin so far in preseason. If something as arbitrary as Mark Hunter making the pick keeps him down that reflects poorly on management.

I agree. We see it all across pro sports though - GM's favour 'their' guys.

If Liljegren doesn't get a spot they should seriously consider trading him. Send him somewhere that he will get an opportunity while he still has some value and bring back a (hopefully decent) pick for the next draft.

there were rumours all summer about Leafs looking to deal Kerfoot/Mikheyev so I guess that would happen. Also, they protected Holl over dermott in the expansion draft so that's another signal about the D candidate they would be willing to part with.... although I'd rather lose Holl than dermott

They used the McCann deal to ensure keeping Kerfoot and Holl, so I'm not sure Kid Kyle wants to deal them. Losing Dermott's 1.5M would help, but the spot needs to be filled for a minimum of 750K.

I still can't see a 22 or 23 man roster fitting. Perhaps there are some shenanigans where they demote Sandin and Lilly on off days and recall them on game days? I dunno.

Absolutely not. I see what you are saying, but a cheap, waiver exempt defenseman who is ready to play in the nhl is far more valuable to us than whatever pick he’d return. Even if he has to start with the Marlies again.

Liljegren wasn't going to start with Muzzin. He's going to make it as a bottom pair or 7th d man. Now if he still doesn't make the team despite a great training camp, then we have problems.

Nylander and Tavares back together (as expected), with Mikky getting a big chance beside them.

Engvall skating on a demotion line still.

Holl back with Muzzin (as expected), and I assume she got the Rubins-Menell pairing backwards (and both imo are in real contention to get looks this year at some point).

with Spezza and Engvall both skating with group 1 here, that leaves all of these guys available to play together on lines 1 and 2 in group 2:

Bunting - Kerfoot - Ho-Sang
Gusev - Kampf - Kase

with Simmonds and Robertson around too.

might be pretty revealing when we see the group this aft.

Leafs can only carry 1 extra skater.
Again comes back to the Marner contract. Same as last year. We can never build a tough and skilled bottom because we need to carry less players than we can. It has to be one or the other because Marner takes all the cap space. And we definitely can't acquire players with both those qualities because those players cost money that Marner takes.

Again this is Dubas self inflicted doing.

The question is does Liljegren want that?

why do we need more than one extra skater?

I get what you’re saying but he’s under our full control right now and if he waits 30 games this season (which I don’t want for the record) before he gets his shot, but he sticks thereafter and plays important role for us, it won’t matter, he’ll more than likely be plenty happy with that

Was ranking him against the list of players I posted. Not my fault if you couldnt understand!

(j/k, it was probably my fault, should have made it more clear.)

i was just confused - seems like Matthews (and like 10 other leafs) couuld have been an answer to your quiz.
