I think you just need to be realistic with the current Leafs. They would be fine in the regular season but comes playoffs is the true test.
You must admit Dubas has a history of letting players walk for nothing and calls them “own rentals”………a total nonsense term
Some have speculated Dermott is still injured, but why is he practicing then? Also why as an extra too?Hmmm Dermott odd man out?
whatever gets Liljegren in the lineup

Both .. Shanny has tied his cart to Dubie .. Shanny will go down with ship it is his way .. gotta respect that stance .. he won't budge .. but last 5 years of Matty we were 4th Atlantic, 3rd Atlantic, 3rd Atlantic and 3rd Atlantic before da Canadian division weak year .. and faltered down stretch in every case leading to 5 1st round defeats .. that is reality .. people trying to use analytics to confuse things and create a new narrative .. I live in reality .. I wish it was different but facts are facts
Every team that makes the playoffs year in, uear out does the exact same thing.
Name 1 GM that has traded a UFA during a playoff push.
By the time you are in the middle of a playoff push it's too late. A GM needs the foresight and courage to move a pending UFA before (or very early in) the season if they don't see them coming back.
This is strangly worded by Kloke. He's giving off the impression that Liljegren asked for a trade.

Athletic Writer.Who is kloke?
Trash phrasing.
Trading pending UFAs before the season even starts because you're afraid to lose them is actually the opposite of courageBy the time you are in the middle of a playoff push it's too late. Again. Who does that? Give an example.
How the hell do you think there are so many UFA'S every year.
Who is trading their UFA's at the start of the season, mid season or anytime when they are expected to make the playoffs?
Athletic Writer.
Yeah I don't know whats he trying to show here. If Liljegren did ask for a trade, you would think the NHL beat guys would know about it. Seems speculative.
What's the difference between keeping a UFA or replacing him with another UFA?

The additional asset you get from moving the first UFA.
Oh I agree it's rare.
But (for example) was Hyman going to be the difference between the Leafs winning the Cup or not last season? If he had been moved at the beginning of the season for something else of value, wouldn't the team have potentially be better off than just letting him walk?
i don’t read it that way. I read it as he’s giving Liljegren chances to convince Keefe he must be on the team. Plus it’s not like this guy knows anything.
I think it is pretty simple .. a better regular season team beats up on some weaker teams like Calgary Ottawa and Canucks... and Habs were hurt most of year and Jets lost Schif for playoffs .. but as I said before year started I thought Habs D and G would end up prevailing which is what happened .. and Jets and Leafs would give them a tough fight but losing JT and Schiefele was a huge body blow for each .. but overall none of these teams would have made top 3 in Atlantic and would have fought for wildcard spot at best .. same thing will happen this year with Habs and Leafs fighting Metro teams for 2 wildcardsYou say the Canadian division is weak, say you live in reality but don't acknowledge someone from our division was 2nd in the NHL last year, please explain.
It's a poor sentence but the "him" is pretty clearly Keefe IMO. As in Keefe is giving Timmy more opportunities to show as deserving of staying up
I think the "him" that the reporter is referring to is Keefe, not Liljegren.
Oh okay. Thanks for the correction. Just seemed like an odd sentence.i don’t read it that way. I read it as he’s giving Liljegren chances to convince Keefe he must be on the team. Plus it’s not like this guy knows anything.
