I guess the question is who would pick him off waivers right now? Hasn't looked good, but older going through motions of another training camp.

Some decisions coming up, but that is likely the case with almost every team.

Oh he'd be snapped up - a heavyweight that can score some goals for near league minimum. A no brainer add for many teams.

Of course, I would be glad to lose him on waivers but as of now I'm just hoping he doesn't cause us to lose a better player for nothing.

Dermott has been RD in every preseason game so far so it looks like unless something changes that is where hes going to start - which pushes Liljegren out and Sandin comes in on 3LD. Wouldn't be shocked if Mennell/someone else is the 7D, and liljegren goes back to the Marlies and comes up once an injury occurs.

From what I saw dermott played mostly on the left last night.

Fun quiz game:

Not using advanced stats, just straight goals/60. Ranking last year on pure goal scoring production last year:

1. (Leafs mystery player)
2. Laine
3. Mantha
4. Backstrom
5. Suzuki
6. Konecny
7. Malkin
8. Kuznetsov
9. Benn
10. Kopitar

Guess the mystery Leafs player.

Bunting.

Nylander and Tavares back together (as expected), with Mikky getting a big chance beside them.

Engvall skating on a demotion line still.

Holl back with Muzzin (as expected), and I assume she got the Rubins-Menell pairing backwards (and both imo are in real contention to get looks this year at some point).

I think one (or more) are going to get dealt of the following:

Kerfoot/Mikheyev/Holl/Dermott

unless they waive both Lily/Sandin to keep Holl/Dermott because both Lily/Sandin are waiver exempt.

I suppose it depends on the roster size they want to go with. Without digging too deeply, I can't see any scenarios where they can go above 21 without a trade for something that doesn't bring back anything that impacts the cap.

there were rumours all summer about Leafs looking to deal Kerfoot/Mikheyev so I guess that would happen. Also, they protected Holl over dermott in the expansion draft so that's another signal about the D candidate they would be willing to part with.... although I'd rather lose Holl than dermott

Technically correct but not the player I'm looking for. This player played 4x the minutes of Brooks.

Correct in a way (He had one of the best in the league actually) but this player played last year for the Leafs and is still with the team.

(You guys should get it soon now)

hmm. engvall then.

Ho-Sang should be signed, even if it's only as depth on the Marlies. That's valuable skill to have in the organization in case of injuries.

Gusev on the other hand hasn't helped his cause so far.

Given tight cap I would sign Ho-Sang simply based on cap strategic play. Even if we lose Ho-Sang on waivers that means some team picks up the cap i.e. less cap for them to maneuver. Based on this strategy I would also sign Gusev; it's not like Leafs don't have money.

Spezza

Menell Rubins marlies top pair?

1st or 2nd.

I think Kral and Sandin/Lilly would be a top pair maybe.

Bottom pair might be the vets Dahlstrom-Biega, or they could keep trying to make Duszak/Holowell something but I don't have a lot of hope for them.

Leafs overall goal production among regulars last year (350 + minutes played):

1. Matthews
2. Nylander
3. Tavares
4. Hymen
5. Spezza
6. Marner
7. Simmonds
8. Engvall
9. Galchenyuk
10. Kerfoot

I don’t seen NHL potential from them and they’re just place holders with the Marlies till our European prospects start coming over.

Back to Muzzin-Holl….. blah

Liljegren gonna get left out again for no reason. Dude couldn’t have looked better this pre-season so far
