i was just confused - seems like Matthews (and like 10 other leafs) couuld have been an answer to your quiz.

It's all good, was just trying to have some fun and dropping hints along the way. I figured it not being an obvious choice would make it interesting.

If someone wants to take the time to list which players need waivers and which don't that would be great. I'm assuming that many of the 'don'ts' will be sent down.

Lost on waivers this season: Brooks, Amadio

I'd like to see these pairings on the blue line:

Reilly-Brodie
Muzzin-Liljegren
Dermott-Holl

- Liljegren looks ready so pair him up with a solid veteran Muzzin who can cover for most of his growing pains.
- Holl seems to fade as the season goes on. So perhaps less ice time will help. He's also a good compliment to Dermott who can make the odd rush.
- I wish Sandin was ready but right now he seems to be the 7th best of Toronto's D core. He won't like going back to the Marlies but he needs it.

Don't understand the obsession with carrying more roster players, seen some suggesting trades of fairly priced players for salary reasons.

If the Leafs were worried about carrying a full roster, Ritchie would not have been signed (I think he was the last signing).

Oh he'd be snapped up - a heavyweight that can score some goals for near league minimum. A no brainer add for many teams.

Of course, I would be glad to lose him on waivers but as of now I'm just hoping he doesn't cause us to lose a better player for nothing.

Let's hope he has something left in the tank ... his seasons of double digit goals may be over.

Some fall hard and quick when they play above their weight class.

I think he'll be fine to score a few goals, I'm more worried about him being injured and/or losing another step trying to keep up defensively. I think the math says he was pacing for 15 goals in an 82 game season playing less than 12 minutes a night which isn't too bad. Gotta stay healthy and keep driving the net.

I feel like we're being gaslit with this Liljegren on the 2nd pairing stuff. Barring injury I doubt he's in the lineup opening night.

Keefe was really testing Kral last night. I wouldn't etch in stone that Kral won't have the best NHL career of all Leafs' defense prospects. Kral seems to have that no panic vibe Kaberle had.

I thought Liljegren had to go through waivers this season but they lost says he’s exempt. If that’s the case then unfortunately I think the leafs send him down. He will get called up if there is an injury.

Sandin is also waiver exempt. I'd rather send him down to start the season and call him up in case of injury.

I just don't think Liljegren stands to benefit from more time in the AHL at this point.

Who gets the job ahead of Liljegren though? Menell? Sandin? Menell has been fine, but he hasn't won it away from Liljegren. Sandin is also exempt and Liljegren has been better than him. The rest are behind those 3.

I like those pairs, and it's likely what I'd roll with. I may rotate Liljegren, Dermott, and Sandin in and out of the lineup, but in those same places. There's no reason they can't use those pairings and also pair Muzzin and Holl at important times.

why do we need more than one extra skater?
An example would be having Simmonds and Gabriel on the 4th line one night and then having Spezza and Ho-Sang another night.

We don't know if we are playing a skilled team like Tampa in the playoffs or a bruising team like Boston use to be. Also applies to the regular season as teams are configured differently.

Being able to have a roster that can do both is another card for Keefe to play that isn't available to him because of shitty cap/roster planning.

Back to Muzzin-Holl….. blah

Liljegren gonna get left out again for no reason. Dude couldn’t have looked better this pre-season so far

Couldn't agree more but at least it seems now Liljegren is one puck off the foot or minor groin pull away from getting into the lineup on a full time basis

I agree, but Dubas loves his guys. Holl and Sandin are his guys. Liljegren isn't.

That would be extremely short sighted by Dubas and Leafs management.

Yes, Liljegren was drafted by Lou, but he spent the majority of his draft year as the consensus No.2 pick until he got sick, which is why the Leafs were thrilled that he dropped to them.

I hope Dubas has a better evaluation of talent beyond the end of his nose, because that would make him pretty stupid otherwise…

I don't mind this idea. I just have a problem with the mobility of the 2nd pairing. Liljegren doesn't stike me as a smooth skating d-man.

Ritchie Matthews Marner
Bunting Tavares Nylander
________ Kerfoot Spezza
Mikheyev Kampf Kase
Gabriel Simmonds

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Holl
Dermott Liljegren
Sandin

Campbell
Mrazek

Ho-sang vs. Engvall for that last spot.
Why is everyone putting Mik so low on the roster?
I really think he will earn a top 6 spot over Ritche
I think our 3rd line will be Ritche-Kerfoot-Kase

Absolutely not. I see what you are saying, but a cheap, waiver exempt defenseman who is ready to play in the nhl is far more valuable to us than whatever pick he’d return. Even if he has to start with the Marlies again.

I can see your reasoning about the draft pick. If they have decided he's not a part of the team going forward they can get an asset for him still rather than eventually losing him for nothing (or next to nothing). It depends if they see him as someone who's right there to get playing time or if they simply don't think he will make it.

It's really hard to form an opinion on this without knowing what management thinks of Liljegren at this point. If it was up to me he already would have been playing in the NHL.

Damn leafs suck me back in. Just win a round or something. Like actually have a good mix of vets and players in their prime. Maybe we beat Boston in 7 for once
