GDT: Training Camp Discussion PART II

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. I only became a leaf fan in the 2010/2011 season, and he along with Gardiner were the two guys I was most hyped/excited for. Rielly is a beautiful and great player. Going to suck seeing him walk but its understandable if money doesn't make sense and the pressure is too high with results not being there

One of the nicest strides in the game, and a gamer to boot.

Lilijgren is in his D+5 and will likely be on the bottom pairing defender should he make the team. People definitely fell into his pre-draft hype and had wrong expectations thinking he'd be a McAvoy-level player. He should still become a top 4 RHD but it'll be in his D+6 year if we get him into the lineup this yea consistently

That guy VinceVega was right on Lilijgren but horribly wrong on Marner. He argued multiple times he'd be a bust and in the 16/17 preseason shitted on marner saying he wouldn't be a top 6er or much more until a year or two from then, before we saw Marner put 61 in 77 as a 19 year old rookei

He wasn’t ready and I thought he just needed time. When you said that in the Marlins thread it was mocked, which was crazy. Then again we’ve had #freelil arguments since his draft year so not exactly serious critiques.

I like what's happening, but I don' expect too much too soon. There's a long way to go.
 
Is the leafs blue vs white game going to be on tonight (Friday night) on TSN. I saw a comment from someone the other day commenting on an intersquad game being on TSN, I thought they were referring to a game of a different team that night.

Something tells me that if we were to re-do the 2021 Leafs Board prospect rankings Kral would come in a little higher than 16th or whatever he was voted at this year.

Always thought his WHL numbers were very interesting, but points don't always tell the story. Getting to play in a men's league last year really helped his development as well. I wouldn't say he reminds me of Kaberle yet because Kaberle was an excellent offensive defenseman and I haven't seen that from Kral quite yet.

Hoping he plays the year on the Marlies so I can watch him most every game

SDA has made some slick plays for sure. He definitely hasn’t been bad.

I thought Brooks was great in his game, looked like a solid nhl player. Held his own with Marner and Ritchie.
 
I also think you have Ritchie too low, not much issue otherwise. I thought, in the limited time he’s played so far, he had some nice chances, showed some early signs of chemistry with marner and looks quicker than last year

Generally this seems to go along with the boards' impressions, especially at the extremes - i.e. Bunting/Semyonob/Lilly/Mikky/Dermott impressing, Gusev/Robertson/Gabriel/Dahlstom not so much.....but with a couple notable outliers.

1. the (small sample) numbers suggest that Simmonds has been much better than most think.
2. they suggest that a couple kids who people have liked - Kral and SDA - have actually been getting run over a bit. this might just be a result of low expectations and maybe just not noticing them much except when they make a good play.
