I'd give Heinola a PP spot over Schmidt easily. As for the PK, DeMelo, JoMo, Dillon and Pionk can kill with Schmidt spelling in.

Sounds like Barron is healthy now and is expected to get a real long look with Lowry and Appelton according to the coach.

So unless he bombs I think we have our opening top 9

Conner Scheifele Ehlers
Perfetti Dubois Wheeler
Barron Lowry Appelton

I guess the last thing to decide upfront is who is going to start on the fourth Gagner.
Ahhh man, I love Lowry but I’d love balanced offence through the top 9.

That might be his thinking - but @surixon is correct in identifying the problem with the 2 top lines as they appear to be now. All finishers on one line and all playmakers on the other is just faulty thinking. It isn't like the 1st line will really dominate and the 2nd will be weaker. Both lines will under-perform their potentials.

Perfetti finished not too bad last game?
I would do this for the first 9 games:

Connor- PLD - Perfetti
Ehlers/Lambert- Scheifele - Ehlers/Lambert
Barron - Lowry - Wheeler
Saku M* -Gus - Appleton

Way more balanced with a 3rd line that could actually do some damage on the scoresheet. Can swap Lambert and Wheeler if need be but my goodness, wouldn’t this be a bunch of fun to watch.

Not saying this will happen because it likely won’t but would be fun to take a look.
No Gagner?

I don't feel like we need both of Toninato and Harkins... both are "just guys", they probably won't hurt you in the bottom 6 like some of the Jets past bottom-6 guys like Thorburn but they don't bring anything else either. There's not much offense, physicality or chippyness in their games. I would give Essymont a shot over Toninato to see if he is effective at this level as atleast he brings a bit of cantankerousness to the table.
Makes sense

I know it will never happen but I think Wheeler would be a great 3C

Toninato, maybe? I agree though. Toninato is a known commodity
I honestly don't know what to expect with Bones. Maybe Toni...maybe not?
No clue as to what he might see in the players/partner pairs/lines.
Saku TooManyMenLineniin lookwd pretty good on rhe 3rd line.

Getting antsy, wish training camp didn't drag on for so long. Still have just under a week left.

I still think this team could fashion 3 pretty potent scoring lines if they went the pairs route.

Schiefele Ehlers
Dubois Connor
Perfetti Wheeler
Lowry Maenalanen

You have 3 pretty strong mail carriers, one on each line. Good size distribution and good passing.

If you wanted to go wild you could throw Lambert on that 3rd line (not going to happen).

I think you give Gagner a chance to be a complimentary 3rd on one of those lines, to be a defensive conscience that can contribute.

Barron can jump into one of those spots.

Then toni, Harkins can fight it out for that last spot.

It's fun to dream 😄

Yeah I'd be more then OK with that line of thinking. Let Cole develop as a C as he likely takes Dubois spot if he's moved after thus year.

Which of those lines are you running against Mcdavid, Mackinnon, Matthews etc?

sure looks like the jets dont see cole as a centre in this league. 6 games to try him there but didnt. way to small to be a centre. the centre we get back for dubois if he decides he isnt signing here and we trade him next summer will be his replacement.

Really depends on game situation and who is the third on the line.

If you're up late you could juggle your lines a bit and run the Lowry line out more.

That cant be true
It's true, but they're going to be streamed.

Perfetti finished not too bad last game?

Sure. All of the finishers CAN make passes. It is not what they are best at. They all want the puck, only 1 of them can have it at any one time.

All of the playmakers CAN score. It is not what they are best at. With 3 playmakers on one line we will see a lot of '1 pass too many', chances wasted.

It is not making the best use of the skill sets of the players. It is not that either line will be bad. It is that neither line will be as good as it could be.

Well said, it's about optimizing each line by diversifying the skill profile of each line. With Dubois and Scheifele down the middle we really have what should be two first lines that can both play equal minutes. No need to stack all of our best players on one of them, especially when all of our best players like to shoot first and pass second.

That bottom 6 still looks very void of offense even though Gagner should be an upgrade.

As far as I’m concerned, this is Harkins last chance to prove he can be effective. Will soon be time to kick him to the curb.

I think that he would be effective on a scoring 3rd line. He has done well when he has had skilled linemates. Not so well with Lowry and the likes of Poganski.

That said, he may be getting pushed down even lower on the depth chart if the Jets find wingers who can play that checking role and also score a bit more.
