Toninato, maybe? I agree though. Toninato is a known commodity

I think Bones will keep Perfetti on the 2nd line to keep him away from the other team's top D pairing. Not saying I agree but I think that is what de is doing.

PP1 Scheif PLD KFC Perfetti Ehlers with Perfetti running the show.

PP2 Wheeler Schmidt Lowry Gagner Pionk

Run PP1 for a good 90 seconds at least.

That might be his thinking - but @surixon is correct in identifying the problem with the 2 top lines as they appear to be now. All finishers on one line and all playmakers on the other is just faulty thinking. It isn't like the 1st line will really dominate and the 2nd will be weaker. Both lines will under-perform their potentials.

Surly you know they will get mixed and matched all year. They're all interchangeable.

And that'll be fine - if that is what happens.

The challenge is that Connor-Dubois-wheeler never produced points…

ESW also had really nice numbers together but for some reason Pomo never stuck with them

How much time did CDW play together? Is that what Bones is working on? He wasn't even here.

KFC and PLD worked very well together. Connor had his best year ever.

I would do this for the first 9 games:

Connor- PLD - Perfetti
Ehlers/Lambert- Scheifele - Ehlers/Lambert
Barron - Lowry - Wheeler
Saku M* -Gus - Appleton

Way more balanced with a 3rd line that could actually do some damage on the scoresheet. Can swap Lambert and Wheeler if need be but my goodness, wouldn’t this be a bunch of fun to watch.

Not saying this will happen because it likely won’t but would be fun to take a look.

What're the odds Heinola runs PP1 during the season? Who do you guys see locked in for that slot? Pionk again?

Morrissey did it last season I expect the same this year. Heinola on the 2nd unit maybe if he makes the team.
Greatly appreciate you taking the time. Best of luck this season. Please smash the Hawks when given the chance.

That bottom 6 still looks very void of offense even though Gagner should be an upgrade.

As far as I’m concerned, this is Harkins last chance to prove he can be effective. Will soon be time to kick him to the curb.

I don't feel like we need both of Toninato and Harkins... both are "just guys", they probably won't hurt you in the bottom 6 like some of the Jets past bottom-6 guys like Thorburn but they don't bring anything else either. There's not much offense, physicality or chippyness in their games. I would give Essymont a shot over Toninato to see if he is effective at this level as atleast he brings a bit of cantankerousness to the table.

With Bowness' comments about the PP/PK role being important for which young d gets the #6 spot, it's starting to look like Heinola may have to go down to the Moose. There are only ~3 D spots available on the PP and I think they are already spoken for by Morrissey, Pionk and Schmidt. Heinola hasn't really killed penalties in the preseason but Samberg/Stanley have. So now it's looking like a 2 horse race between those two guys. Heinola may have to wait for an injury to get his shot.

I'd give Heinola a PP spot over Schmidt easily. As for the PK, DeMelo, JoMo, Dillon and Pionk can kill with Schmidt spelling in.

Sounds like Barron is healthy now and is expected to get a real long look with Lowry and Appelton according to the coach.

So unless he bombs I think we have our opening top 9

Conner Scheifele Ehlers
Perfetti Dubois Wheeler
Barron Lowry Appelton

I guess the last thing to decide upfront is who is going to start on the fourth Gagner.

Would probably awful for his development, but a duo of Lambert and Gagner on the 4th line have the potential to score a lot of goals - especially if they continue to run the 4th line often.

The big issue is they both play the same position unless they move Gagner to center. I don't think he's played much center the last few years though.

I personally think the Moose is the best spot for Lambert anyhow. As exciting as the last few weeks have been he still is coming off a poor year and would be best served playing big minutes in the AHL. Spending time in the AHL most certainly helped Perfetti, and Conner. I'm sure it will also help Brad as well.
