There's been a whole thread about how people aren't surprised.
Yes more of a general comment rather than question but... I'm curious why the media seems so shocked by it

I was wondering the same thing? No cuts today?
No cuts today?
I'd be shocked if Wheeler isn't on that top line. I think that trio need another game together to try to find some synchronism. It's a relatively new combination. But that's probably our 2nd line to start.Nice! Hope we see Dillon with Heinola again and Lambert with Perfetti and Dubois
I agree wheeler will be on the top line for sure but I think Harkins has played himself off the top 12. I can see 8 playing on the lowry line for sure.I'd be shocked if Wheeler isn't on that top line. I think that trio need another game together to try to find some synchronism. My guess is Harkins-Lowry-Appleton work together, as a potential 3rd line. I'd like to see Maenalanen get a shot there. Maenalanen looks like an upgrade on Vesalainen, he covers a lot more ice. Maenalanen and Reichel are a couple of those guys that are in the fight for final roster spots.
Lambert right now is competing to get a contract and a spot with the Moose. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with Stenlund again tomorrow.
What's your opinion of the defense so far? I thought Samberg and Schmidt were better than Samberg and Pionk. Do the Jets go back to Dillon and Pionk now?
It's looking more and more to me like Heinola is being tested as a replacement level player, fitting in on the right side gives him a lot more opportunity. Still can't see the Jets creating a roster spot for him, especially if it is at Samberg's expense, when Dylan Samberg is winning points for his work on the PK.
If the Moose end up with Heinola, Lambert, Torgersson, Lucius all getting sent down could be an exciting young team.

I don't think Appleton is a lock for top 9 either. Good to see competition developing.I agree wheeler will be on the top line for sure but I think Harkins has played himself off the top 12. I can see 8 playing on the lowry line for sure.
I think it will take longer for the vets as they were subject to Maurices wacky systems longer - takes a while to unlearn that stuff. Especially when you are tired or under a lot of pressure, your first instinct is to go with muscle memory. I don't think we'll see the Jets playing the way that Bowness wants them to with consistency until around ChristmasI think Bowness had to be quite pleased with the so called B team in Montreal last game. Altho they are clearly not as skilled/dynamic as those left at home, they seemed to follow coach`s prescription very well. Scoring chances against were well down, and play in the neutral zone and offensive zone looked encouraging, with few glaring breakdowns defensively except for individual error.
It will be interesting to see if the more veteran roster playing tonight against Edmonton will show similarly. If they do in fact show more structure in the way they play, it will be very encouraging and alleviate a lot of my angst.
8-17-22 could be a solid combo
87-19-47 is interesting too
If anything 12 looks to be playing himself off team more then 19. But who knows its wide open on the 4th line.Interesting, I wonder if Gus is playing his way off the team. That line with him Reichel and Lambert looks like a top 6 line on the Moose. The other line with Harkins and Toninoto looks like an NHL fourth line.
Fair comment.... . I agree that it will take a while to make adjustments with consistency - just hoping to see early signs that they are ALL prepared to make the commitment to change.I think it will take longer for the vets as they were subject to Maurices wacky systems longer - takes a while to unlearn that stuff. Agreed! Really hoping the players are dedicated to getting up to speed quickly. Game over game improvement is keyFair comment.... . I agree that it will take a while to make adjustments with consistency - just hoping to see early signs that they are ALL prepared to make the commitment to change.
Looks like they really want to give Perfetti/DuBois/Wheeler a good look as well... if so, pre-season games will make that assessment difficult (vets not making full effort as you`ve mentioned several times before).Interesting, I wonder if Gus is playing his way off the team. Yeah I think the only lock for the 4th line is Gagner. I think Gustafsson's safe to make the team, whether he starts or not is up in the air, I honestly don't know who has been better between him and Toninato in preseason. I think Eyssimont has been more noticeable than Harkins. Next game for #23 will be a big one. Eyssimont, Stenlund, Reichel all these guys are battling for a spot. Right now I'd say Maenalanen is holding one down.If anything 12 looks to be playing himself off team more then 19. But who knows its wide open on the 4th line.

You may well be right about Gus - he needs to show better quickly.
