Some potential positional battles to watch tomorrow judging by that roster. Assuming those bottom 6 spots are actually up for grabs. All 3 of the younger LD are also in the lineup, I wonder if we can read into whoever gets paired with Schmidt as having the inside track on the last spot?

I'm not sure any of the incumbents in the bottom 6 should be safe in their role from last year. I think even Lowry and Appleton should be fighting for their ice time.

Do my eyes deceive me? Have Samberg and Heinola jumped Stanley?
The roster they've been posting the day before games isn't a depth chart, the pairings likely won't look like
Heinola-Kovacevic
Samberg-Capobianco
Stanley-Schmidt

Polei Mallot Maier

Heinola Schmidt
Samberg Kovacevic
Stanley Capobianco

Rittich
Holm

Ouch, things could get ugly. Then again I thought that in the first preseason game and they actually played pretty well despite the loss. Still, we're missing a couple of the better players from that game.

Well it should be entertaining as all these kids are fighting to get noticed. There will likely be a bunch of cuts after tomorrow and they get down to a workable roster. Final chance for some of these guys. It will be interesting to see the LD and bottom 6 battle.

I'd love to see that Gustafsson line as the opening day 4th line. That's a completely revamped 4th line, and I think there's some scoring potential there. Big game for the Maenalanen-Stenlund-Lambert line to make an impression.

Samberg-Kovacevic could be an interesting pairing. Like to see how they fare against pros on the PK.

Every defenseman but Schmidt is fighting for a roster spot, that's the 6-10 defensemen on the depth chart, so there should be motivation in their game.

Not sure why they are dressing PLD for this game. If I were Chevy, I'd have made him stay in Winnipeg than take him on a trip to Montreal... hopefully the weather is miserable.

I've been getting the feeling that the Jets were not very impressed with his antics this offseason and are putting the onus onto him to put the effort into being a part of this team. and that he won't be served on a golden platter and begged.
Look at the difference between the first media availability between PLD and Scheifele for their end of season/off season remarks. PLD seemed to be thrown to the wolves on his own. Now PLD on the travel preseason lineups with the majority of players who will not be wearing a Jets jersey during the regular season.
I liked how Bowness said that players should be grateful to be in any position, whether it's playing on your off hand wing on the 4th line, or even being asked to go out and block a shot. Seems to me that he won't be catered too and I'm all here for it.

You need I think it's 8 "veteran" NHL players, which are players with 100+ games, players with 30+ games last season, goalies who played or was a backup for 50+ the previous season, or this year's 1st round pick. It's just PLD's turn.

Man the 6-7 and perhaps 8 D spots are wide open.

Heinola has been making a strong case for himself but I think he's hampered by who's in front of him. I think he's looked very good on his off side with Dillon, and for organizational depth it makes sense to explore that further.

Stanley has looked pretty awful. He'd be the dumbest player ever if he took it easy this offseason thinking he had a spot locked up.

Samberg I think was the guy the Jets had circled to make the jump this season. I don't think he's looked good so far but not necessarily bad.

Kovacevic has waiver eligibility on his side. Let's see how he plays tonight.

All said, unfortunately it looks like Heinola will be the odd man out. He'd be first call up for injury or if one of the roster d gets moved.

I see the Jets carrying 8 d with Kovacevic being a pb guy, and one of Stanley or Samberg getting the last spot. I could see those guys rotating in and out with one another.

I think Stanley will have a lot of pressure to have a massive game after his previous game. There simply is too much internal competition for the defense positions to do that.

Interesting there's no Lucius. I wonder if they've seen enough or if they'll give him a chance with the big boys. i was hoping that he'd get another game, as i think he played pretty well against Edmonton.

I'd say chances are he's on his way down soon. He'd have played tonight with the other hopefuls if he was still in the running.

I'd have to agree. Hopefully a big year with the Moose this year and a strong WJC performance. Just hoping he stays healthy
