Oleksiak is a big loss, was really hoping he would have came home to play here. We needed his type of size in the back-end and he could play up in the lineup IMO. Leafs desperately need size and gap-closing in the back-end (also with our forwards, we need guys that aren't scared closing out on shooters). We're too soft and easy to play against.

The pee wee team across my condo is grittier

Starting the team with some team toughness. Who does Francis think he is ? What does he know about hockey

Absolutely. Good chance they take Giordano too so add him to the list.

Lets face it, every team in the league is grittier than the leafs. It's just a travesty at this point

Vegas did the same thing by drafting guys like Engelland, Mcnabb, and Reaves.

Armia will likely look for Goodrow money too.

I think realistically the Leafs are looking at the second tier guys who don't go in the initial rush like McGinn and Martinook who will want Goodrow money, but because they weren't in a deep playoff runs, won't get it.

I'd be happy with McGinn. Great energy guy who could bring a lot to our hopefully new look 3rd line, or even be that puck hound for Tavares-Nylander
 
I understand the thought process, and it's creative to essentially lose Hallander + 7th in expansion, but they should've kept McCann.

I would've gone 7-3 and exposed both of Kerfoot and Holl hoping they take Kerfoot. I like Holl, but it wasn't worth losing McCann to protect him.

How is McCann significantly better than Kerfoot? And if that's the case then why do teams have no problems trading him rather than doing what's necessary to keep him?

he's not better by any accounts. McCann is not very good.
On Colorodo, Kerfoot was used in an offensive role and did well (19 and 15 goals, 42/43 pts), we turned him into a defensive forward instead.
McCann's best season is 14 goals 35 points used in an offensive role.
he's bigger (but doesnt use his size) he's younger, and cheaper ...thats the only advantages, and cant play C, because he cant win a draw!
 
A common theme over most of the successful teams in recent memory was that they had big, mean lineups. Maybe not 30 fight teams. But, they were equipped for a long grinding playoff run. Dubas just does not understand this philosophy. He is refusing to adapt. After this move I don't really think he plans on addressing it. I'm almost done with him, give me Francis.

They lost a 7th and hallander.

If the leafs went 4-4-1 and didn’t trade for McCann

do you think they were taking hallander?

If not. Then the leafs won.

I agree I am more than ok with them selecting McCann over Kerfoot. We dont need any change for the sake of change. Eliminating Kerfoot makes the team weaker. I am fine with McCann leaving.

He’s not better tho, different yea, but he’s not better and not better in the things we’re looking for now.
Kerfoots the better two way player and playoff performer.
I don’t see how anyone can be upset at this, we capped our XD losses to a middling prospect and a 7th.
