3 shoulder surgeries....

That and Price is 34 with 10.5M cap hit

Losing big cap hits like that without taking back salary or retaining isn't the worst. If he is able to bring in someone like Landeskog...no big deal.

Habs already down Weber this year most likely, gonna be a tank year. Shane Wright for them?
If the Cracken select Terasenko the Blues will use the cap space to acquire MT from Calgary.

Can someone explain to me why the Blues GM shouldn't be immediately fired for just losing Tarasenko in the expansion draft?

Holy moses what a disaster that will be

I think losing Pietrangelo for essentially Faulk and Krug was the start of some weird stuff going on in St-Louis.

Doug Armstrong is a great GM and I have been hoping the Leafs to poach him for a long time but his last few years as GM have been... questionable.

He's still a tradeable asset.

I think it's absurd to let him get picked.

3 shoulder surgeries in 4 years. How much game could he possibly have left? At 7.5M he doesnt have much value. The cap space is likely more important to them that they can go and grab someone like Landeskog

There goes the Oleksiak dream lol.
I don't blame him, Seattle is a nice place and it will be an exciting place to play in the first few years.

They must have felt the returns (which included various retention %) weren't worth the dead cap or taking back a bad contract.

Unfortunately we don't get to see what is offered.

GMs can't overpay UFAs while Seattle can. At Covid prices Seattle is going to be a very good team. Gone are the days of the expansion Caps and Sens. Money now buys you a good expansion team. Can Toronto get an expansion team?

Gio, Oleksiak and Larsson is a pretty decent start to a D core for the Kraken.

Oleksiak - Larsson could be quite the 2nd pairing

I'm a big fan of what Seattle is doing so far, I may find myself watching more of the Blackhawks and Kraken at this rate.

I have a feeling Kahkonen will be a Leaf via Seattle

Young 1b with potential for less than 1 mill

That would be a hell of an add for Dubas.

If there is a way to acquire Kahkonen from Seattle that would be amazing for the Leafs. He and Campbell would be a great tandem moving forward at a reduced cost. If that deal was completed the Leafs should extend Campbell right now to put us in a position to not think about goaltending for the foreseeable future.

That would be great asset management. You have to think we can sign Campbell to an extension for about 3 million a season after the season he had last season and his history of injuries. Unless of course he bets on himself.

Talk extension with Kahkonen immediately too, if you can lock him up for 3-4 years at a good rate, do it.

Agreed but you have his Restricted rights for another season so there is no rush to sign him to an extension right now. Your better served to sign Campbell and let Kahkonen play on his rookie deal until its a must to negotiate. Spend dollars on other holes right now.

No idea, they picked up Talbot off the trash heap in UFA, he was very replaceable if taken.

I find it's better to be early on this stuff than late because if he comes in the net and crushes it, it gets harder to get a deal done at a favorable #.

WPG negotiated before Ehlers finished ELC, got him at 6x6

We paid 6.9ish for Nylander because we waited until he hit RFA.

If there was ever a time to jump ship and root for another team it just might be after this entry draft?

I agree with what you are saying but it can also work the other way where you sign him to more than he is worth. With the Leafs cap situation and them owning his rights beyond this season I just feel it would be foolish putting unnecessary cap space at this time to a goalie that you control.

With keeping the big 4 together for another season, if things do not work out again. Its safe to say both Dubas and Keefe will be gone. My hope is that it isnt the case but if it does you will have more cap space to work with because it is certain that incoming GM will put a stamp on the team and breakup the top 4.

I'm of the belief that the core 4 don't work as a strategy to win a cup so if it takes a year of missing the playoffs or 1st round exit, so be it.

I'm going to guess Michael Bunting will be among the players targetted when free agency hits as well. Could be a very good depth player to have and Dubas knows him well. He'd be a big upgrade on players like Vesey and probably Boyd that were here.

Totally agreed, it makes to much sense. Like willing to put money on it.
He only made the NHL this year and broke out which at 26 years old is really late. With only one year of production he is going to be cheap, and want a short 1 or 2 year deal to prove himself so he can earn a bigger contract asap. What team has the media that hypes up there UFA's to get overpaid more than any other? I think we all know...
He's a LW which the leafs have next to none of.
He's a local Scarborough kid.
And everyone get ready to groan! He was a Sooooooo Greyhound!

Money in the bank.
