I like Tkachuk but I'm not interested in his 9 AAV qualifying offer. If he were willing to re-up long-term at 8ish it would be a different story.
As much as I love MT, he might not be worth the trouble. Gonna end up with the Blues anyways.

I really hope we go for Coleman hard, if he can be had at 4.25m or less that is

Last year, the best contracts that wingers signed were, 1yr 8mill with Taylor Hall, Dadanov 3yr-$5mill per, Toffolli 4yr - $4.25m per & Hoffman 1yr - $4mill.

I don't believe Coleman is near any of these annual values, but if Goodrow gets $3.6m per, then I would assume he would get something close to that.

I am growing increasingly worried that the leafs are going to sign Hyman to an 8 year contract at over $5 million.
He is using other teams and the media to make it look like the leafs are getting a “deal” by signing him. These leafs have all become mercenaries and extortionists.
Whoever signs him is going to regret the contract they hand out.
Please don’t be us.

do. Not. Want. For that price at all.
4 x 4.5 was the highest for me. Man it would be rough

Sounds like Schwartz is staying out West. Landeskog seems extremely unlikely due to his price as well. Hyman seems pretty much gone unless he comes down on price.

I was hoping that Schwartz would be on the Leafs radar. Really the perfect player to play on either top 2 lines. Good defensively and able to play with top line players.

I really think the Leafs will live in the bargain bin signing, 1 week after free agency opens. Guys that remain unsigned after the initial rush and you're getting Matt Calvert on a 1 year, 1.25mill deal or Slater Koekkoek on a 1 year 1 mill type.

best thing about Hyman was that he didn't seem like one of our greedy young three mercenaries. but if he's like them too then f*** that.

I really think Liljegren will be a player for us, but part of me also wouldn't be shocked to see him as a main piece to land a Top 6 winger in the coming weeks.

I was all for losing Holl/Dermott to Expansion and allowing him to slot in, but after protecting Holl, both of those D seem likely to return. Unless the Leafs opt to rotate regularly, they have blocked Liljegren once again, prior to even making a single addition on D.

I think he ends up a top 4 two-way D still, but I can accept that a player like Garland (for Liljegren+) is going to do more for us as we try to win this year given what the roster currently looks like. Not to mention, the D core as is could remain relatively untouched for two season (Decision on Rielly, but theyd be adding bigger if he is leaving), so the opportunity for Liljegren to cement himself might not even come. Niemela and Kokkonen, or whoever else, may be on the cusp by the time an opening rolls around.

I like the idea of Danault, but McCann is either 3C or top-6 LW based on his play the last two seasons.

Danault would drive our fan base crazy within weeks. How many times does he kill play with a muffin shot in the crest. Ask Hab fans. My third line center has to chip in 10-15 goals and play D. Want no part of him. But I respect what he did this playoff. Can’t believe he turned down that contract. We have enough greed on our team.

2 goals in 38 playoff games. His contract ask is absurd.

He’ll be one of the more overpaid players in this class and in hindsight it will look brutal.

He's always been kinda unspectacular to me. Never been blown away. He's got great character and leadership but that's not worth the money he'll make.

Character, Leadership, plays hard, hits, defensively responsible, great at faceoffs and a PPG player whose numbers don't drop off in the playoffs.

I think the only knock on him is that he put up his numbers playing exclusively with Mckinnon and Rantanen...that'd buoy anyone's numbers. But he'd be absolutely perfect next to M&M.

Just for fun silly trade to solve a bunch of problems.
Henrique + Rakell + Manson + Gibson = $20mil @50% retained = $10mil
For Marner.
Leaves you about 12 million to fill 3 forwards - Landy, and some guys

Landeskog - Matthews - Rakell
McCann - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Henrique - Foligno
Spezza - Kuraly - Simmonds

Reilly - Brodie
Muzzin - Manson
Sandin - Holl
Dermott

Gibson
Campbell

Mirtle said there’s been barely any talks between Hyman and the Leafs and Hyman won’t be back essentially. That’s why they gave Hyman permission to speak to other teams so early.

if Goodrow is getting 3.6, then I would guess Hyman and Coleman are both north of 5
Armia will likely look for Goodrow money too.

I think realistically the Leafs are looking at the second tier guys who don't go in the initial rush like McGinn and Martinook who will want Goodrow money, but because they weren't in a deep playoff runs, won't get it.

It sucks but if Hyman is really looking for a big payday then you move on ... I'd be concerned about his impact in the back half of a long term contract simply because once he skating starts to drop, his game will really suffer.

fans love Hyman because of his work ethic and the fact he loved being a Leaf. One of the few guys to exceed the value of his contract. Turns out he is no different then the young guys in terms of greed. Even worse given his family’s wealth. I don’t even want him back now. He is going to regret the pressure this new contract is going to have on him. Hard to replace with a guy making 2.5 million. Easy if we are comparing him to guys making 5-6 million. Next.

Can someone explain to me why the Blues GM shouldn't be immediately fired for just losing Tarasenko in the expansion draft?

Holy moses what a disaster that will be

3 shoulder surgeries....

That and Price is 34 with 10.5M cap hit

Losing big cap hits like that without taking back salary or retaining isn't the worst. If he is able to bring in someone like Landeskog...no big deal.

Habs already down Weber this year most likely, gonna be a tank year. Shane Wright for them?

if 5x8 is a home discount, what isn't? hyman doesn't need the money and wants to stay home, so this might be even slightly more disgusting than nylander, matthews and marner's behaviour. no way you should pay him this kind of money max term.
