Not sure Robertson will make the team. Suffered a knee injury and spent a short time in the AHL and is only 19. May need more time, next year will have a lot of pressure
He'll be 20 when the season starts. But still it depends more or less on off season acquisitions as well.

Definitely hard to gauge after the last season but I have high hopes for him.

It would be a godsend if he is ready, an ECL in our top 9 makes putting a team together miles easier from a cap perspective

Is Kerfoot even a worse player than Kadri? I mean, Kadri is louder and a lot more fun. Kerfoot makes 1M less, is significantly better defensively, and their production is relatively similar when you take into account minutes played. The trade happened, we lost. Get over it. It wasn't egregious then, it's not a huge loss today.

it all depends on his strength ...if he can handle that, he's ready, but, not sure his body is ready (or even capable), even though he may think he is.

I wouldnt say Kerfoot is significantly better defensively than Kadri

Instead of signing two players at 3.0 we could go 4.5-5 m for Danault, league min or 900 k for Chuck, then the rest goes to Bogosian+ back up goalie. Danault is elite. An Engvall-Danault-Mikheyev shutdown line would be ridiculous. Say what you want about Mikheyev he can skate like crazy and defend and Engvall with his speed and 6'5 long reach shutdown McDavid in back to back games on that Hyman-Engvall-Mikheyev line last year. 3 big players over 200 pounds and each can still score 12-15 goals but they would used in a shutdown role.

Galchenyuk-Matthews-Nylander
Robertson-Tavares-Marner
Engvall-Danault-Mikheyev - 3rd line shut down pair.
McCaan-Spezza-Simmonds - 4th line secondary scoring.

Flip Gally and McCann and not too bad even though we are still too soft IMO.

I like the idea of Danault, but McCann is either 3C or top-6 LW based on his play the last two seasons.

Wonder if a third team will ask Seattle to take Carey Price with some retention in exchange for a decent package?

I like Tkachuk but I'm not interested in his 9 AAV qualifying offer. If he were willing to re-up long-term at 8ish it would be a different story.

May I get in on this fantasy theory-crafting?

How about an all-in scenario:

Seattle takes Kerfoot. Sign Landeskog 7/50. Trade: Amirov, 1st, Dermott to Phoenix for Garland and Kuemper 50% retained. Trick Garland into accepting a $2m deal. Trade Engvall for a 7th.

Landeskog-Matthews-Marner
Garland-Tavares-Nylander
Mikey-McCann- Robertson
Simmonds-Spezza-Nash (vet min)

Morgan-Brodie
Muzzin-Hall
Sandin-Lil'

Kuemper
Campbell

Comes in about a buck under the cap - we carry 20.

Now, what do we do the year after when we have no caproom and no goalies? Mind your business, that's what.

I'm going to guess Michael Bunting will be among the players targetted when free agency hits as well. Could be a very good depth player to have and Dubas knows him well. He'd be a big upgrade on players like Vesey and probably Boyd that were here.

Bogo is signing with a US team, Leafs can’t afford him anyways.
