wonder if they could pull off a trade with Seattle to take someone and then flip for a package....i.e. Killorn from TB then trade for Dermott and Kerfoot

If Kerfoot is taken and McCann is considered a LW. In FA the best options for the Leafs cap structure at 3C are...

Nick Bonino
Mikael Granlund
Erik Haula
Travis Zajac
Alex Wennberg

Not a very attractive list if the goal in moving Kerfoot was to bring in an edgier 3C. Comparable players though. I like Bonino.
I'd go more defensive than some on that list, the likes of Derek Ryan or even Brassard could be a nice fit. I'd really like Krejci but he won't leave BOS, seems he's Spezzing it - sign with BOS or retire

It would be good to find a 2-way 3rd line centre that is physical but it's kind of a unicorn. Jenner or Zacha come to mind but not sure on the cost.
Casey Cizikas is a ufa, he’s from Toronto so he might want to sign here.

Siegal and Mirtle ranked UFA forward options:

  1. Schwartz
  2. Landeskog
  3. Hall
  4. Hyman
  5. Palmieri
  6. Danault
  7. Krejci
  8. Tatar
  9. Granlund
  10. Hoffman
  11. Saad
Bottow 6 options:
  1. Statsny
  2. Bonino
  3. Coleman
  4. Perry
  5. Galchenyuk
  6. Bunting
  7. McGinn
  8. Parise
  9. Foligno
  10. Calvert

I assume NYI will make it work since Ladd, Leddy and possibly Bailey are gone, at least it was hinted Bailey would be the Seattle expansion draft pick. I think they'll give him some crazy term for a better AAV.

So is Foegele not an option anymore?

On podcast, Marek and Friedman talked about Foegele briefly. They contemplated not protecting him or qualifying him and then got a ton of calls on him which made them re-evaluate what they were doing and were they missing something with him, so maybe they're doing some more homework.

I'd want one of the 2-3 stud goalie prospects, and maybe one of the younger (cheaper) d-men ...maybe in a bigger package deal, but, we dont really have much to offer them back they would want, that we would trade, except the players we exposed

What about acquiring Tierney from Ottawa through Seattle?
i'd try to get Austin Watson from Ott in a deal. maybe trade Mik, as he seems to have gotten one dimensional with us, and is softer than margarine

Wennberg? Bonino? Sutter? Glendening? Kuraly? Sheahan? Better than McCann...? Alrighty then. I feel like the only requisite is being to win a face off in your eyes and do nothing else?

The grass isn't always greener and I don't think your idea of quality is very good either.

They aren’t better players than McCann, just better centers.

Most of the players you listed are NOT better centers though... A center is more than winning faceoffs over 50%. It's the most overrated statistic of a center.

Either way, I think we essentially agree that we need to sign and add good players.

Schwartz would fit like a glove. Really good 2-way player with really good skill. Perennial 60 point player but some question marks about his recent injuries lately I think?

I think a 4-6 year deal around 5M to 6M would be ok and a far better bargain than re-signing Hyman for the same rumoured cap hit.

How many times do people have to be told he is not a replacement it’s not even the same player as Hyman no matter how many times you right it it isn’t going to happen lmao
You’re right, McCann and danault would be better players long term than one legged Zach. Especially at that price tag being mentioned

If McCann isn't a center I'd be looking at Stasny or Bonino for 3C

For top 6 LW I'd be looking at Schwartz, Tatar,Granlund, Hoffman, Saad

Cheaper depth I'd be looking at Galchenyuk, McGinn

Id wait out the first day or two of FA and try to pick up some of those guys on the cheap when the market tightens up

No Wennberg on that list but I'd be interested in him to as a LW/C option

I could see that. Hyman also has side businesses so I imagine New York would be desirable for him to grow those as well.
always been a fan but gets hurt more than I want out of a solid 3rd liner that can play with top talent if the chemistry is working on and off the ice.
