I like the McGroarty deal but only if he projects as a center. Trading futures for a winger when they desperately need a future 2C and impact D makes little sense. I am not very high on Minten personally. I don't see much more than a 3rd / 4th line center.

He isn't paid like one, at best that's tandem money and what Samsonov got on a lower cap

If he was a proven no doubt #1G were talking 7M-8M type money not less than 4M

He's not going to take backup money until everybody knows he's nothing but a backup

If this is true, it is almost 100% not with Clayton Keller. They want to add to their core.

I think the most likely package is something like 6OA + Schmaltz + Ingram + Hayton for Marner + Liljegren + filler

I think I’d want to trade Robertson out of all the young ones for him. Not necessarily because I think Minten is better.

Just if McGroarty ends up on the wing, at least it’s winger for winger.

One of the best players in the league, and the 2nd best player on the team.

Having good defense and depth does not require throwing away our best players. We've already done it, through a much more difficult league and team situation.
And so far, Treliving hasn't shown an ability to improve either, or effectively use cap space.

The only cap space that is relevant to Marner is the cap space he takes up, and we should be able to improve our defense and depth with the cap space we already have.

Saying you want to upgrade the defense is just a generic statement of want. It isn't a plan of how to actually do it successfully, or an explanation of why it requires removing one of our best players to accomplish.

One of the best in the league who falls off during the playoffs I guess. Was actually interesting to see that he is behind Nylander in Points Per Game in the playoffs since those new deals were signed. You'd think our top 2 guys would be over a PPG in the playoffs only playing 1st rounds.

Who says throwing away? We are trading away one of our top heavy forwards to get more scoring throughout the lineup, or good puck movers on the back end since this top heavy lineup has done nothing. We've already done the good defence and depth option? When? We did it and still sucked and lost? You just keep adding to why we should do it. Anyone who defended our previous GMs moves/use of cap space really shouldn't be saying anything about our current GMs moves and use of cap space after 1 season.

He was overpaid off his ELC and he'll be overpaid again. Unless he's signing a discount deal to make up for taking 2-3 mil more than he should've on his last deal then his cap space is better used throughout the lineup. He got his pay day and us as fans got to watch 1st round exits. Go rip another team off and their fanbase.

There's many ways to upgrade the defence. A lot of FA options this year. Even more that you could get in a trade for Marner. I thought those were pretty obvious though.
