Ah yes, he’s got that Leaf stink that won’t come out
It just gets worse…

This man gives Kevin Lowe a run for his money when it comes to arrogance. Atleast Lowe built a finals team from scratch without a drafted generational talent, and won a bunch of cups as a player to earn some of that arrogance. This f***ing bum did nothing.

They’re not a fluke occurrence. Most teams get at least one good player out of the later rounds every so often. Who’s the last good player we got outside the first round? Brodziak?

This team is abysmal at drafting which means we consistently have to rely on trades and signings and we aren’t great there either.
Late picks are largely dependent on development, that's what I mean as fluke occurrence. Chia got flamed on this forum, seven plus later his record started looking pretty good, but he was 50% in the first round and drafted McDavid lol. Many of his late picks developed in other organizations as well

Holland/Wright made three good picks in 4 chances in the first, each player increasing in value after draft +1, which is what everyone is looking for -- in a pool of the most scouted players. Is it a scouting problem?

We also saw the Oilers unwilling to commit minutes to Broberg, Strudwick wanted Kulak traded to make room, and they rushed the hell out of Holloway, he acclimatized to the AHL for 70 mins before he got called up. Our two best prospects.

How is he arrogant when he was thrust into the position and never even wanted to be GM? His decisions have aged very poorly, but he said over and over he didn't want to be GM.

The Captain Hindsight armchair GM'ing that people post ad nauseam on this forum, on the other hand, is really tiresome.

We wouldn't have to keep playing Captain Hindsight if we had a few Captain Foresights in the front office.

I don't see how that's Jackson's fault though. From what I recall of his interviews around the time, they sounded more like team decisions. And, I'm not sure how it usually works, but having an inexperienced interim GM during that period was really not ideal. I guess it was a combination of the cup run, Holland's expiring contract, and needing a GM immediately afterward before they decided on Bowman.

Right, which means they should've had their new GM ready from the get-go instead of what they ended up doing. They put a man in an important position who was in no way qualified to do that job and here we are. It's a failure all around.
