I did 5.5M x 5 for Harley

1.25M x1 for Dellandrea
1.5M x1 for Steel

So they have 1 hole at RW

Dadonov, Suter and Faksa are all possibilities to move.
I would think Faksa is gone, Duchene returns. Stankoven/Seguin/Bourque 1-3RW. Or they play Bourque 3C with Stankoven 3RW because they played so well together this year.

Then L4 is Dadonov-Steel-Dellandrea

The one thing with Bourque-Stankhoven is they're both be rookies and they're both like 5'10, don't love that (lack of) size.

I don't see a ton of 27 year old 90-100 point guys with Selke votes on that list

I'm also old enough to remember clowns telling me that Kadri was addition by subtraction to
Why does our 90-100 pt selke vote winger become a 70 pt player come playoffs?

Your saying to run it back plain and simple.

The bruins lost the Thorton trade and he was a 90-100 pt player. Won a cup 5 years later.

Leafs need to improve the team. Giving marner a 12M+ deal at 8 year term just shuts any chance of winning we may have

We basically need a Chara to hit UFA and 2024 or 2025 UFA class have that kind of defenseman.

Makar, Weber, Trouba, McDonagh, Fowler, Ekholm, Andersson and Holl will be UFA in 2026 though.

Holl might be a bit old though ;)

I'm really hoping we run it the f*** back for a change. Maybe tinker with the 4th line and bottom pair.

At least that will lead to some different discussion around the team.

Word is he has decided to play out the season.
That's not what has been said.

"As I wrote a few weeks ago, the Marner camp, led by agent Darren Ferris isn’t putting together a list of teams for a potential trade. The focus for Marner, who has a full no-move clause, is on honoring the remaining year of his contract and seeing where things go from there," LeBrun wrote.

"That also means I don’t think there’s an appetite to talk extension come July 1. The preference from the Marner camp is to start the season and see how things go. Perhaps there are talks on an extension eventually, but I don’t believe there’s a strong desire to get into them this summer."

1. They aren't putting together a list yet, because they haven't been asked to provide one yet.
2. If he was going to stay in Toronto, they would flat say that. They said his focus is... not that he will be....

If the team decides to trade him, all of this will change.

No, I'm saying that's up to Marner and 5 years? Our guys would be well past there primes in 5 years so that's one hell of a bet

Your getting 11M back with Tavares next season and already have 15M in space right now, cap space isn't an issue right now

I Guess we just disagree fundmentally how good the core guys are

i dont see any of the core guys Marner, Nylander or Rielly as a 1W or 1D for a playoff contending team.

Matthews is a 1C but hes just a good 1C like Sebastian Aho and not an elite game breaming 1C in the playoffs like Mackinnon/Crosby/McD etc

I just cant imagine a team with 3 of the 4 best players being Marner, Nylander, Rielly winning a cup ever

That's fair but we Still need those guys to agree to leave, that isn't our choice alone anymore

I'd also prefer to trade Marner rather than let him walk next season but he's got the cards, we can't do anything without him

I highly doubt that Tavares waives or is even asked to.

That said, instead of Utah for Marner, what about Tavares?

Utah has a young team, 10 2nds over the next 3 years - including a 2025 Leafs 2nd as well as a lot of cap space.

Utah gets Tavares with $3M retained and a modest contract extension in place.

Tavares gets the C for his 3rd team. Gets stability for a few more seasons.

Toronto gets 2024, '25 and '26 2nd round pics as well as $8M in cap space.

Before you ask why they would name him captain as he hasn't led a team to the cup, this is the staff who named him Captain on the national team.

We do not want Durzi. He is horrid defensively. Also, Hayton has a track record that leads me to believe he's a bust.

A bust? He was injured this year but had a 40 point season as a 22 year old last year. Far from a bust so far.

Unless you think every player turns into Matthews / Marner

From Utah,

Leafs should look to acquire Matias Maccelli in any package for Marner.

He's extremely underrated.

They don’t have a problem with scoring goals in the regular season, Marner can’t score in the playoffs, I don’t see what they’re losing here………
Because 4 guys put up all the offense most of the season. Take one of those away and you're down to 3/4 of that production. If you're playing all of Reaves/Kampf/Jarnkrok/Dewar/Holmberg at the same time we would not score enough to make the playoffs even if Matthews paced 70 again.

Right, and I'm not saying that the standard is Matthews/Marner. But they should minimize risk in whoever they target and consider factors like age, AHL production, NHL production etc.

Hayton's almost 24, has one season with decent production, and has not been able to produce in the AHL. I'm sure his top 5 pick status from 6 years ago is very appealing for some people.

LeBrun met up with Tre yesterday. Tre said that everything is on the table. I guess LeBrun was kind of hinting that they may be active in a Marner trade. Of course, whether it happens or not is another story.

he also said that Tre had meetings with a few GM’s at the combine. He wouldn’t reveal who though.

Lost
Russ Courtnall for Kordic, Rask for Raysoft,Scott Niedermayer for Kurvers, Kessel for Seguin and Hamilton, Steve Sullivan(waived went on to get 70 pts),Couture for Nolan, Steen for Stempniak , Kadri for Barrie, Kessel for a bag of hockey pucks, Verhaege as a throw in. Overpaying everyone but having no backend, resigning Samsonov, resigning Keefe. There are an endless list. People blame it on some curse. Its inept manangment that is either incredibly stupid or a bunch of NHL insiders screwing the team up on purpose. Watch what is next. I guarantee a huge brain fart this summer.

Even better, Toskala
