Leafs should go big and make sure they get an actual impact player. I would love to fix the whole team in one offseason but it’s not possible, so I’d prefer not to sign a bunch of middling players to contracts which limit us for the future.

Go for Skjei who becomes our best defenceman probably, and then if you can afford someone else, great, but if not then wait until next offseason when Marner and Tavares are gone. Much prefer that to signing walker and pesce.

Rielly - Pesce/Roy/Tanev
McCabe - Montour or Skjei - McCabe
Benoit - Liljegren

If we were adding two top-4 defenseman and we landed them both from FA. I'd try to follow this template. A stay at home guy to replace Brodie with Rielly and an offensive defenseman to replace Klingberg next to McCabe.

Pesce and Montour would be my top two choices. Adding them both would create a cup winning defense.

Skjei and Demelo/Tanev should be the target, or Roy instead, I bet we come away with Walker and Tanev.

Toronto desperately needs to fill the one of the top 4 dman hole with a real top 4 d-man in FA.
Roy and Tanev would be fine business. Plug them into the top 2 pairs, and we're a better team on July 1st than we were last year.

We can't solve every problem this offseason, but that would solve a big one. If we double dip on the back end, we probably have to go with a lesser goalie, unless we're trading a piece away for one. If Mitch is traded, I'd aim for a young #2 C as the main piece, and get a ready/near ready prospect and a 1st

I don't know how Roy is as a puck mover. I think they should try to give McCabe a offensive partner so he doesn't feel the need to play so aggressively like he does sometimes. I think Montour + Chatfield might be a better group to target.

I like DeMelo over Tanev just due to age, Toronto has had some bad luck with their d-man just falling off a cliff play wise due to style of play and mileage on them, I think Tanev falls into that category.

You're right, you can't solve every issue but being able to grab a top 4 dman without spending any assets is something Toronto needs to do. I want Toronto to get a real goalie, but I think with there needs are currently, that's going to be something they push to a later date. (Probably could get away running a cheap tandem and then making a trade @ the deadline for a goalie if needed).

I'm not even considering Marner off the team at this point, with what's came out so far, it seems pretty apparent the loser doesn't wanna go and theres nothing Toronto can do about it.

Watch us get Zadorov + Joshua

Joshua makes a lot of sense. Zadorov could make sense but the Leafs will need to find a way to make his contract work and still add at least 2 RHDs because we're going to be in another situation where we're scrambling roster wise due to being poorly constructed. Spending over 5M long-term for a mid to low pair LHD defenseman would be peak Leafs.

Joshua could come in at a reasonable number. I like him as a target. He still has room to grow and could out perform his contract.

Zadorov is going to get paid more than he is worth. There are 6 or so defenseman better than he is in FA (Montour, Skjei, Pesce, Roy, Tanev and Demelo and because of the way he goes about his business and his track record in the league he will get a comparable contract to some of those names, higher in some cases over a long term deal. Fun player to watch. But, I'd probably try to aim higher with the names listed above or lower with someone less shiny like Dillon, Hakanpaa, Edmundson or Myers to play Zadorov's role for less money.

Montour is the Tyson Barrie addition all over again. It doesn’t make sense with Rielly here.
Montour has a big shot that the PP needs so he doesn't overlap with Reilly imo...he's is also a much better player than Barrie. He plays d, hits, and apparently a great locker room guy. My ideal would be bringing in Montour and Roy for D, thought Edmundsson was a lock but guess not. Even to the point where I might just go bargain bin on G, sign someone cheap like Brossoit to pair with Woll

Don't resign Bert, maybe resign Domi if you can move Kampf and Lil and no cap coming back. resign under 4 , otherwise trade them for someone like Vatrano

Something like Montour 7 x 7.5 and Roy 5 x 5.5 , Bross 3 x 1.85, Robertson 3 x 1

Dach with Montreal.

Depends on the contract. He brings puck moving ability from the backend. I agree that giving him a lot would be a mistake.

His brother, Colton, is a prospect with the Blackhawks.

He was on Canada’s world junior team last year.

Joshua will get the Barclays Goodrow contract. I don’t think we can afford that for a winger given our other needs.

Just like Barrie, putting Montour on the PP just means Rielly is demoted. He may not even be an upgrade on Rielly on the PP. He’s 30 years old and has only cleared 40 points once.

Skjei should be our main target if he is available.
He'd easily be our #1 and on the #1PP/PK and doesnt need a defensive specialist next to him to succeed.
then if we are shorter on $$ for the 2nd Dman, look at Carrier (great puck mover) or Chatfield, potential to be a breakout player (PP2)
Ideally, Skjei and Roy (but we would want to add 1 more RHD), but anything that moved Rielly down a notch would be a huge win for us.
Montour, would be like a RHD version of Rielly, and we'd need to pair him with a stay at home guy (but likely McCabe and that pairing would be high risk/reward).

Skjei - Roy
Rielly - Chatfield
MCabe - Lil
Benoit

...screw wasting money on forwards until our defense if fixed. Our defense being useless is what cost us the playoffs every year.
2 goals/game is because our top players wasted shift after shift trying to get the puck out of our zone because our Defense couldnt.
