They don't make men like this anymore, legend.
Cogliano finished a game in the playoffs with a fractured neck not so long ago vs Seattle, dirty hit from Eberle.

NHL players don't like to advertise their injuries and usually try to keep it as quiet as they can in the off season after the playoffs so I'm sure there's a lot of players that played through some gnarly injuries.

I remember Bergeron played with a punctured lung and a broken rib around 2013 or something.

He had wicked shot. Good for 20 a year
Except he only did it 3x in his career and never back to back.

I remember how ecstatic I was back in '12 when I was at work , and found out then GM Paul Holmgren offered him a 14 year $110 mil offer sheet, to which Weber signed. Damn Predators ended up matching it and the rest is history sigh, Would've been the perfect replacement after losing Pronger

Thornton played a full playoff run on 1 knee, I think 2016?

Tkachuk was all banged up in 2023 as well

Really rare nowadays to see guys soldier through injuries and keep pushing

From what you know of anyway. Some players still don't reveal their injuries at all and don't have to under the rules.

Not that Weber's playoff wasn't gutsy or anything. It definitely is.

Can't help but wonder did he would have played a bit longer with some more aggressive restraint from the Habs medical staff
It didn’t matter what the medical staff wanted, Shea wasn’t coming out. Also, whenever that contract got down to $1million base salary he was done. Not sure if that happened after the cup run or a year after. But either way, everyone on the team knew it was the last chance, they had to leave it all out there.

My fun little tidbit is that I lived in the room that Shea Weber signed that contract!

Not so sure about that but even then many thought that suter was carrying Weber to a certain degree defensively early on.
Sort of. Suter certainly wasn't weak, but Weber was a huge physical presence, and had a great shot vs. Suter's muffin. Young Suter was superb defensively... Weber was vg, also, but not as steady. Like i said, excellent pairing, and matching of complimentary skills.

The guy was an absolute warrior and left it ALL on the table
The guy was an idiot and should not have been allowed to play injured.

Absolutely toxic culture that stupid self-destructive behavior like this is idolized.

Amazing player and leader. Sadly this spirit will be gone going forward and NHL players will have less fortitude than your average Best Buy employee, but Some Folks tell us the game is better that way as attendance and ratings plummet.

Meanwhile I'm in bed with the sniffles.

We often forget how tough and driven these guys are, and even among them there are exceptionally tough and driven players.
