A goaltender I think the Leafs will/should have interest in is Georgiev. He's had a tough year on a bad team, but I think he can bounce back. He's young enough to do so as well. Probably more someone to look at in the off-season though.

Really eh. I’d love to get him, just didn’t think we had as good of pieces as they’d get elsewhere
We have the prospects and picks to get a deal done. A Granlund Ekholm package would be nice if it comes at a reasonable cost.

If there's a deal to be made for both Ekholm and Granlund, you do it regardless of the cost. Anyone is available minus our core 4 and Rielly, Muzzin, Brodie for defenseman. Adding a top 6 winger plus a top 3 defenseman puts this team is serious cup contention.

why would the price go up?

Dreger has a history of being a mouth piece to drive prices up. Just GMs publicly negotiating using the cheapest shill available. I'm sure the next report will be about how Philly is looking at someone else and Dubas set a personal deadline for a deal because of quarantine.

The addition of "another piece" without specifying what it is or giving a ballpark on its value is one of those weasel words you use when you're not confident in your information. If it ends up being a conditional 7th in 2030 he's technically still right.

Its an interesting trade deadline. There are very few “sellers” at this point with those teams being the most engaged sound like they are the obvious:

Sens
Sharks
Ducks (Deslauriers, Rakell, Hakanpaa)
Sabres (Staal)
Devils
Red Wings (B. Ryan, Glend, Namest)

Nashville is in discussions purely due to the pieces they’ve got allegedly available, and their playoff hopes. My money is on Jankrok here, not mentioned but we will see.

Columbus is another, but I think you see Torts go before they make any significant changes.

Then there are very few “buyers” due to cap constraints and internal budgets.

Do I think the Leafs can make a move of significance?

I do, but they’ll likely need to continue to find a 3rd party to retain salary for some targets.

Lots of moving parts with several issues to overcome.
Jarnkrok makes a lot of sense, versatile player. C/W, PKs, good two way player, best in a 3rd line role but enough smarts and skill to play up in the lineup if needed. Also just 2 mill on the cap with one more year after this one.

If Nashville doesn't end up trading Ekholm they'll have to go 4F/4D for expansion and Jarnkrok is likely the odd man out at forward (Johansen, Forsberg, Arvidsson are locks, Kunin likely the other due to age and contract status).

Essentially that makes him equivalent to a UFA from Nashvilles perspective as he's very likely to be claimed in that situation.

NHL Hockey Standings
Shitty thing is Nashville plays their next 2 games against Detroit who's without red hot Bernier; they win those and they're probably convinced, at least while Dubas is trying to make a trade, that they're back in the playoff race (they're up 2-0 late in the 3rd right now). There aren't many worthwhile options right now unless Dubas waits; maybe Taylor Hall but he's a big "?" Can that guy still play or has he lost a step, or two or three?

Maybe he just has the Buffalo bug; I'd personally question his character though because I've heard he's a locker room poison but that was at least 5+ years ago. I heard it either 2nd or 3rd hand from somebody that was training on ice with him, so the source is legit but might be wrong, possibly some sort of misinterpretation or if it was third hand then the truth may be distorted some (the source is a guy I trust that has trained and been out with a lot of good NHL & AHL players but I don't remember if the situation directly involved him, his brother, or a close friend of his; I think it took place in the dressing room). I only vaguely remember what was said about him but I think it was along the terms of "a dick that thinks he's better than everyone else, like you're not worthy to speak to him, he's all-star Taylor Hall". I'm kind of shooting in the dark but I think something was said to Hall (like for example, "you got any shinny") and Hall goes "don't speak to me". Take that for what it's worth.

That ^ along with the fact that I've heard his name attached to "looker room poison" "locker room cancer" before. Maybe he's matured, maybe was just rude that one time, idk.

I think that we still need a bit more grit. I really don't like our chances in a 7-game series with Washington or Vegas.

why would the price go up?

With Josi and Ellis being out the past few weeks Ekholm was the #1 guy and with him being the top trade deadline target he probably had a lot of eyes on him so the Predators probably made the price much higher since everyone got to see he can play in every situation no problem. I'm sure most GMs already knew this but worth a shot from the Predators side to try and get more because of the situation with the injuries.

not sure if this was posted here yet but...

Cap works; brought Boyd back @50% because if Kerfoot is out we need bottom 6 centre depth (Granlund will play wing but very capable top 6 or bottom 6 centre depth), he's familiar to Leafs system, doesn't need to quarantine, cheap, & @50% of his cap hit he's easiest option to fit.
Granlund Ekholm Boyd - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Nashville:
1st round pick 2021 (TOR)
LW Rodion Amirov
Alex Kerfoot
Filip Hallander
* Conditional 3rd round pick 2021 (TOR) * becomes 2nd if Leafs make Stanley Cup Finals.

Toronto:
LHD Ekholm (7% retained by NSH)
W/C Granlund (50% retained by NSH)
C/RW Travis Boyd (50% retained by TOR) * could have be as low as 46%

Vancouver:
LHD Filip Kral

Edit: Boyd is on COVID protocol list but still works. Team is at a 21-man roster here. If Dermott+ were instead move for say Nick Paul a 20-man roster opposed to a 21-man roster, where that Centre could be a higher cap hit.

We are not giving up anything of value for Travis Boyd. He's a waiver fodder player for a reason, and worse than a lot of the depth guys we have right now.

Meanwhile Filip Kral is a legit prospect with serious upside.

He was waived for cap reasons the Leafs could have gotten a late pick for him; they were obviously hoping to keep him. Maybe Boyd @50% is worth a 6th or 7th. Kral is a late 5th round pick (maybe his stock has risen a little since), fits a Vancouver prospect pool need, maybe they send us back a late round pick or just just send us a late round pick without Kral included. I doubt he ever plays a game for the Leafs and odds are Dubas can flip another late round pick for something good. That's the minor part of the 3-way trade it's just to get it done, Nashville will want to retain as little as possible on Ekholm which is the big picture of the deals & there are not many great centre options at 700k with retention. Don't care if Leafs overpay something so small to make it happen, it's insignificant compared to what else is going on; that can't be a roadblock.

I feel like the Marlies got robbed a little this season. Hallander, Kral, Der-Arguchintsev, and Malgin would all probably be playing for the Marlies right now, that would definitely give him a pretty big boost.
