Confirmed with Link: Edmonton trades for Trent Frederic and Max Jones and rights to Petr Hauser for Shane Lachance, Max Wanner, St. Louis' 2nd pick in `25, Edm 4th in `26

Yes it is that bad. This guy is being outscored by Adam Henrique. Struggling 3rd/4th line tweeners go for third round picks or worse. Facilitating extra retention from a third party has a historical price of like a fifth round pick not two passable prospects. If you're even right that the one wasn't going to sign you could still do better by moving his rights elsewhere.

But I'm sure the board will gaslight itself into thinking this is fine just like it did with Henrique and Bjugstad and Athanasiou.

Disclaimer: I don't dislike Frederic as a player. He'll help and would have been a smart Buy low option if the team had actually bought low.

The hell does any of this have to do with how much it costs the Oilers to get players in terms of trade assets?
I think he was referencing SIGNING LaChance.

In that respect, it has a lot to do with it for some players, especially American ones. Nothing wrong with that. Indentured servitude was outlawed many years ago. I suspect you are free to choose where you work as well?

The Cup window is now, I don’t expect him to fill the net but if he bangs some bodies, creates some space and drops the gloves it’s good value for a half mil.

I like what Frederic brings to the table and we badly need it. That said I am skeptical that he's anything but a rental unless he really likes it here and we give him one of those much coveted NMC's LOL! I'll have to look into the prospects that we got to get a read on them. Jones is a guy that was once seen with good upside but he just never panned out. Lachance going out sucks but if he wasn't signing here then at least we got something for him.

Well if he was that would be pretty strange because my post didn't have anything to do with the draft rights of NCAA players either.

John Shannon said he got his walking boot off recently and should be 2 to 3 weeks away, so not too bad.

Jones is an NHL tweener who can add size and toughness on the 4th line.

It is a bit of an overpay, but I think they see Frederick as a guy who can play wing in the top-6
Thanks for the info Jimmi. Have to wonder how confident they can be about re-signing the guy. He's hitting UFA status, an American (oblique reference to the current climate), and while his numbers have cratered (not just the production but the other stats fancies) someone else will be willing to overpay for a player like this I'm guessing. No question this team needs a useful, aggressive player with his size and some hands.

Jones adds some size to Bako too.

Bako's top6 last game looked like this:

5'11'' 183lbs - 5'9'' 185lbs - 5'9'' 185lbs
5'11'' 185lbs - 5'10' 185lbs - 5'11'' 192lbs

Yeah that's my feeling as well, he's going to market and looking for a big payout, likely his last deal. Can't discount his nationality and probability that he'd rather play in the U.S. That Hauser guy is a 5th rounder and a very long shot at this stage. Pretty steep price for yet another rental, even though as a player I like what he brings.

Great trade, Frederic was my number one target. He's 200 lb, 27 and scored 17 and 18 goals the last two seasons. This is the type of hockey acquisition that Jackson didn't seem to understand. Frederic is exactly what the Oilers needed, sad we didn't grab Brazeau and Carlo as well lol

On the downside, we learned today that Rico and Arvy had non reported NTC's, awesome job Jackson

He's a good fighter for a light heavyweight too. If we can have him and Kane in the lineup together we go from softer than charmin to having some grit and don't take shit from anybody mentality injected into the team.

He’s a UFA who is likely to play 10 regular season games and the playoffs for us. It’s not recency bias, it’s literally all that matters.

We are once again paying a premium for what a player used to be. Not what they are today. This org constantly does this going back all the way to a guy like Athanasiou.
He’s 26 your posts are embarrassing

Exactly, gritty players in their prime who could potentially score 20 greasy goals are valuable AF. For our needs, he was the best player out there imo. I was worried the bidding was going to go Jeannot crazy, so don't see an overpay with the retention

Does draft round matter? If so Lachance was a 6th rounder and Wanner was a 7th rounder.

Late to the party but Frederic was one of the guys I was hoping we’d get. Great middle 6 F who brings what we sorely lack.

Good f***ing riddance Connor Brown.

I'm not worried about American players wanting to play in Edmonton. Why? Edmonton has never had much of an issue of Americans wanting to stay here.

Doug Weight never wanted to be traded. Economics forced him out. Same with Bill Guerin.

Jason Arnott was forced out by the fans. Same with Poti.

Connor Hellebuyck Signed a 7 year extension with Winnipeg.. and that's fukking Winnipeg!

Just because a couple big names from the USA left Calgary, doesn't mean it happens here.

Just reinforces the point that Calgary is a giant shithole

Hope this guy is really really good defensively, since they aren’t getting a goalie

Maybe cause I am older--I lay the blame on the Arnott situation to certain media people not liking him and writing hit pieces on him. His ex-girlfriend had a kid and one of the "beat" writers called him the poster child for unplanned fatherhood or something
