Miller? Wow… funny how him starting seemed like a dark year, but that was before Tomlin Purgatory.

Not that he’s wrong, but Miller was the original most depressing starter the Steelers ever named… for me anyway.

Until Kent Graham came along, obviously.

Think Miller was 96? That was some depressing shit because O’D left in a stunning FA move after the SB debacle.

That left Miller and Tomczak… Miller won the job and was so bad he got pulled after one game.

That was a year you just knew was going to end in disappointment, despite the dominant D and run game.

Yet that would be considered a great season with Tomlin Purgatory, because Cowher won a playoff blowout, despite Tomczak trying to play for the Colts all game.

Different eras, different expectations.

Justin Fields turns...27 today. Uber athlete coming into what should be the prime of his career. I'd be Saquon-Giants level sick if we let him walk away and didn't see what we had and then he lit it up somewhere else. I'd be done with the team.

Not saying he's a savior or even a starter, but we REALLY need to see what we have with him. He'd be the best prospect in this draft, and in Pickett's draft at least.

Stutsman and Payton Wilson would be so much fun to watch at MLB. Two white maniacs running around.

Sanders is much better processor bow than Fields and Ward is a better actual Qb. There’s hardly any difference between Fields or Daniel Jones

Disagree

I think Fields in his draft year and Ward this year are really similar with a lot of the same knocks. Fields is faster, but Ward has a bigger arm.

Shadeur is a better processor than both. I actually like Shadeur's intangibles and moxie a lot. I think he is what you want your QB to be. I just think his throwing motion is going to see him give up an astronomical amount of interceptions.

Daniel Jones is atrocious.

Fields makes the most sense for what the Steelers seem to be trying to do, i.e. win now by copying the Eagles. I think Fields and Hurts are a lot more similar than they are different. Athletic, can make all the throws, legit threat with their legs, but aren't good enough to carry an offense. Give Fields a great line, the best RB, some legit WR, a strong defense, and a coaching staff that knows what they are doing and he'd win a lot of games, too.

We'll see how the line gels with Jones at LT, what RB they can land, who they get to be WR2, and if they can fill a spot or 2 on defense, but he'd still be missing one piece here....still probably a better spot than the Jets, though.

If I was him, I'd feel confident that the Steelers won't do anything before FA, so I'd see what the Jets or any of these other teams offer and then take that back to the Steelers and say match this.

If I'm the Steelers, I'd be fine waiting for him and signing him for 2 years at anything less than $15M/year...maybe even a little more. Give him a season as the unquestioned starter. If he looks good, extend him. If not, draft your QB in 2026, let them sit a season behind Fields, and then let Fields walk. If they miss out on Fields, does it really matter? Sign Jones and tank for a 2026 pick.

If I'm a fan, I realize nothing matters because we're stuck in purgatory anyway.

The very worst thing that happens is that they start Fields, he really is shit, and we can't come back from it. There isn't a losing scenario in starting Fields

Player A 60 Td 34 interceptions in 4 seasons
Player B 45c-31
Player A has 3 of the first 4 seasons with over 2900 passing yards. Player b has 0

Yeah I recognize it’s unlikely he turns into much more than he is now, but I just can’t help thinking “What if?” with him. If a good option exists, I would understand people being upset with bringing Fields back, but it doesn’t.

And just from a fan perspective, I would have a tough time not tuning out if they went down the washed up, vet QB route.

The worst thing would be to win 9-10 games and if they are lucky enough to squeak into the playoffs, lose in the first round again....which unfortunately feels like the most likely scenario with Fields....or Wilson....or Rodgers. Jones might be just bad enough to actually suck, not sure.

While I’m far from a Fields proponent, he’s easy to root for.

He’s overcome epilepsy, his teammates always have good things to say about him, he didn’t whine when he got benched, no off field rumors following him around, etc

Wilson seems to make enemies wherever he goes and doesn’t seem like a genuine guy.

As I’m writing this I realized Fields shouldn’t come back to Pgh and get Tomlined… I’d like to see him do well, and that certainly won’t happen under Tomlin.

I guess going to the Jets or Giants won’t be a big boon for success either though.

If they re-sign Fields, which I hope they do, they really need to let him open up more and take more throws. He has a highlight reel of deep passes in Chicago, but the Steelers only used that aspect of him sparingly. More so than that, they have to let him being a riskier version of his 2024 self to see what he is really capable of. And I’d like to see less designed runs (re: shotgun straight into a run) and more scrambles to extend plays that can turn into big runs where he can minimize how much contact he ultimately takes.

Yeah, as fed up with the Steelers as we are, the Jets are...I don't know how else to say this....the Jets. And the Giants are so incompetent that their GM said on camera "We're not paying our QB $40M to hand the ball off to a $12M RB" when talking about Daniel f***ing Jones and Saquon Barkley, that guy still has a job.

Much like the Steelers don't have a ton of good options, neither does Fields.

I liked what I saw in the beginning of the season. He was playing calm football. If he can play efficient ball and pick up chunks on the ground...I don't see an answer for him. I think Fields is a special player because of his legs. He has a great arm, but it's not an elite level arm. Fields is what he is because he can run a 4.5.

Not unsurprising but this confirms Vegas is going to be in the UFA market for a QB. I feel like Rodgers as the starter and Milroe sitting behind him makes a lot of sense for what they’d do, especially since Rodgers will be coming with Adams.

That said, would Adams go back to Vegas even if Rodgers went there? He demanded a trade last year and pretty much quit on the team IIRC.

We see it from the Steelers perspective mostly.

Fields I’m sure doesn’t trust Tomlin and I’m 100% sure he privately raged about how he got f***ed over.

Dude is a legit professional though and has never whined in Chi or when Tomlin pulled the rug on him.

I don’t think he has any great options where he will become some SB winning QB, which is a combo of bad teams chasing him and his own talents.

If he’s smart he will go to market and take the highest offer, because the Steelers, Giants and Jets aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Just get paid and wherever you go make lemonade out of lemons.

Obvious to anyone who isn’t enamored by “omg QB with a 4.5!!”

The NFL ain’t Madden. Fields leads the team to nowhere.

The problem for the Steelers is they have a coach who doesn’t want to develop a young QB because it means a semi rebuild. Doing that when the defense is stacked seems dumb and I don’t disagree. But their best options right now appear to be Sam Darnold or Aaron Rodgers. Unless they decide to throw the kitchen sink at the Jags for Trevor Lawrence or something. Which they’re not going to do.

To make matters worse they seem to have no interest helping the next QB by improving the WR corps. Yes than can draft but they’re not doing themselves favors by relying on rookie WRs to be major contributors.

The team is certainly mismanaged and it goes to the top - Art II. They want to be a power running team in a passing era (dumb), while putting minimal effort in giving the offense an OL that can adequately run block (incompetence).

No he wasn’t doing just fine he like Trice are depth guys if you want to be serious about playing nickel like Buffalo and Philly. NB needs to be a starter and paid as such. Hobbs is ideal for this team

By what measure wasn't he doing fine? Dude was always near the ball.

And this team cannot commit to more $$ resources on Tomlin's precious defense that gets roasted time and time again. They need cheap guys like Bishop and Trice to take on significant roles.

This billion dollar defense sucks as it is...we can't keep throwing more cap allocation towards it.

Hahaha- you're funny. Because Tomlin is so risk averse he'll never let Fields run wild. Hell I bet they don't ever let Fields audible all year if he's resigned.

You know what? Give me Jones or Fields so this NHALS can finally be put to bed. In fact, I'd argue any QB on the open market isn't good enough to transcend Smith and Tomlins's Neanderthal ball. If I squint hard enough I can see RW performing about as well as last year and getting this team to 9 wins or so, but nothing beyond that.

Also for those wanting Fields. He has literally never won a game where his defense gave up 21 or more points.

No, not a SB winning QB but while money on this contract obviously matters, it's also about setting himself up for a future contract. I think there's a pretty reasonable argument that the Steelers give him a better chance at that than the Jets and Giants, regardless of how he feels about Tomlin.

Sure they can. Where exactly is the big money going on offense right now? Until they have to pay a QB or their linemen are up for an extension, the spending is always going to be a little lopsided.

And Bishop was fine for a UDFA but he’s not a starter.
