Fields makes the most sense for what the Steelers seem to be trying to do, i.e. win now by copying the Eagles. I think Fields and Hurts are a lot more similar than they are different. Athletic, can make all the throws, legit threat with their legs, but aren't good enough to carry an offense. Give Fields a great line, the best RB, some legit WR, a strong defense, and a coaching staff that knows what they are doing and he'd win a lot of games, too.
We'll see how the line gels with Jones at LT, what RB they can land, who they get to be WR2, and if they can fill a spot or 2 on defense, but he'd still be missing one piece here....still probably a better spot than the Jets, though.
If I was him, I'd feel confident that the Steelers won't do anything before FA, so I'd see what the Jets or any of these other teams offer and then take that back to the Steelers and say match this.
If I'm the Steelers, I'd be fine waiting for him and signing him for 2 years at anything less than $15M/year...maybe even a little more. Give him a season as the unquestioned starter. If he looks good, extend him. If not, draft your QB in 2026, let them sit a season behind Fields, and then let Fields walk. If they miss out on Fields, does it really matter? Sign Jones and tank for a 2026 pick.
If I'm a fan, I realize nothing matters because we're stuck in purgatory anyway.
