OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: No 3peat for the Swifts

Sanders is one of those dudes that you don't bet against though. He has the confidence his father does. He's not going to fail from a lack of trying or preparing. I also think he'd be a good teammate and leader. I am just don't think his talent makes taking him a good move with where he is slated to go - it'd be another Najee/Kenny situation.

I don’t have a problem with signing Slay if he comes at a good figure. But they also need to sign a slot CB, Hilton or Hobbs, as well. Good to hear they are looking into it.

I know some people will balk at spending more money on defense. But I firmly believe in leaning into draft strengths and weakness.

This draft is exceptionally strong in DL and RB and the Steelers are extremely lacking in those areas. Lean into it.

Supplement the rest of the roster accordingly. Add a #2 WR in FA, Pay money to get a good guard like Fries or Jenkins or Becton.

That article actually has a lot of good nuggets:

-Sutton, Slayton and Kirk are mentioned as WR targets, WR and CB are their 2 primary positions to fill. The Steelers would have traded for Kirk if not for his injury so he's a logical guy they'd target.
-They want to add DL help, with mentioning Wharton and Hargrave as two names to watch.
-Any OL help they're looking at will be depth.
-Harris is almost definitely gone and they want to sign Warren to a long-term deal.

Not that the Warren news is surprising, but I wonder if they'll want to draft a power back to complement Warren. I've been advocating for Henderson with their 2nd, but I think drafting Johnson as the power back in the 2nd and keeping Warren as the speed back would make more sense.

My guess on their current plan:

1. Sign someone like Slayton to be their WR2 and Dobbs to be their CB2 in free agency
2. Draft a DL, RB and WR with their top-3 picks.
3. Pay one of Fields or Wilson on a 2 year, $15 million a year or so deal.
4. Draft a QB in 2026

I like DJ Giddens as a 2nd back to Warren. He ran a 4.4, had a great 10 yard split, almost 40in vert, so he has explosion. He doesn't fumble. He's just not very polished as a blocker like Judkins and Henderson are.

Yeah between that plus his comments about wanting to play for Tomlin, I'd be surprised for them to not sign him. I'm not crazy about going after a 34 year old CB, but the dude can objectively still play.

Peterson's numbers were pretty good the season before they signed him too tho. I'd still be worried.

Brugler’s mock today had Sanders falling to the Steelers. I can’t really see that happening and have no idea how I’d feel about it.

He also said as of now it doesn’t seem like teams will be eager to spend day two picks to move up in a “relatively light first round”

I've only started to delve into the draft but right now it feels like I'm reading a lot of push back on the idea that Sanders is a genuine shot at a franchise QB who should go top 10. There's all the muttering about his attitude - and I have no idea if that's true but there's plenty of it - and some about his talent levels, where it feels like he'll have to be maxed out in terms of his game IQ and he doesn't show that he has it.

His last name clearly complicates everything in terms of people's perceptions so I'm very hesitant to say what I believe, but when I don't know what to believe in sports, I generally believe in sticking with the consensus, and and I think that if the consensus says we don't like this QB enough to take around the top 10 you've got to ask yourself really hard whether he's good bet.

I think Sanders will have a career like Mayfield.

Wash out dramatically on his first team after showing early promise, come good elsewhere after growing up a bit? Plausible, but doesn't make being his first team attractive :naughty:

I think in terms of DL, they should probably go after it in FA and the draft. But otherwise yeah.

Beanie Bishop was doing just fine as a slot CB until the Dunce Tomlin decided to continually play Sutton over him for reasons unknown. Note that as soon as Sutton started getting more PT the defense went to crap bc he was going off script.
