It’s clear that at this point Tavares needs Marner. Matthews will be fine with Nylander. This is what I’d like to see up front for playoffs (assuming Andersen buried on IR or moved). That third line is all speed.

Hyman Matthews Nylander

Galchenyuk Tavares Marner

soupy Kerfoot Hall

Simmonds Spezza (Thornton or Marlies)

I wouldn't assume he's underrated just because the odd poster thinks he moves, or even wants to move him for help-now. Most consider him to be one of the 'big-4' A-tier prospects we have along with Sandin, Lilly, and Amirov.
He should be considered the clear #1 among those 4, with Sandin being the clear #2. 5 days younger & Robertson is one of the very best players from the 2020 draft which was considered very strong among the early 1st round picks; he's outperformed all but a couple (Steuzle #3 & Lafreniere #1) since he was drafted, maybe Drysdale could make a case against him as well; if he were on a weaker team unlike the Leafs he'd likely be putting up decent numbers in the NHL right now while consistently playing, arguably he could have been for the Leafs if it weren't for his knee injury.

5 days younger in a weaker draft class it's not silly to think he could go #1.

Unless the name is Filip Forsberg (with retention) he should be off the table.

no disagreements from me.

I think Keefe's biggest flaw is being stuck on the Matthews-Marner pairing. I understand they're best friends and want to play together, but as the coach, your job is to put the best lineup together that wins you games. Nylander and Matthews have proven chemistry, as does Tavares and Marner. My ideal lineup would be,

Galchenyuk-Matthews-Nylander
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Engvall
Thornton- Spezza-Simmonds

If I'm Dubas, I look at improving the 3rd line in moving out Kerfoot/Engvall for a player like Miles Wood or Alex Iafallo. While also adding a tough bottom pairing defenseman. I don't think we have to do anything major.

Nylander's chemistry with both JT and AM have come and gone over the years. I see nothing in Galy that justifies him as a #1LW at this time. I don't dislike him, but he and Barabanov are, to me, almost a wash. If we're replacing roster spots that #1LW is replacement territory to me. We have no gritty pests, no sandpaper in the forward group beyond Simmonds.... so I'd hope that we look at that when looking at the LW upgrade.
