Risky deal but decent for Calgary. After a disasterous start, they have had a nice off season. Better than the Oilers for sure.

Mega deal for Huberdeau there from Calgary. Realistically, it's a contract that needed to be offered and signed.

Next year's UFA crop of defencemen looks interesting so if Muzzin were to be moved, I suggest off-season, especially to let Sandin develop.

Artem Zub
Dmitry Orlov
Travis Sanheim
Scott Mayfield
Carson Soucy
Mackenzie Weegar
Ryan Graves
Damon Severson

Flames did well. Essentially Hubie is replacing Johnny. Well Tkachuk is traded for a top pairing Dman, an okay prospect and a first.

Flames did A+ job keeping their team competitive after two best players ditched them. But I still rather be the team getting 24 year old Tkachuk. Both teams win. I wouldn't even need to think about it if you gave me option to choose between tkachuk or huberdeau+weegar.

The deal has shades of Demar for Kawhi. Florida gets the better all around player who is a slightly worse scorer. The big difference is Weegar is Danny Green in this situation and he went the opposite direction.

Tkachuk also came in cheaper for Florida, which is critical for them. They just couldn’t afford to resign both Huberdeau and Weegar anyway. Calgary can be a winner here too. One of this rare trades where both teams can be a winner from it.

Again, go back and look.

FYI the only forwards among the group he wasn't involved in were Matthews and Nylander.
2018-2019: Toronto Maple Leafs 2018-19 roster and scoring statistics at hockeydb.com

I apologize if I miscast the team with 7 20 goal scorers, and Kadri/Marleau/Nylander/Brown didn't even hit 20, as a good offensive team.

As I said - the defense wasn't good.

As I said - the goaltending was good. Would have been even better had Dubas kept McElhinney over Sparks. Andersen was 2nd in the league in 2018-19 in GSAx, McElhinney was 24th.

If true, it seems to be having the opposite effect.
Sorry. Mostly a dig at some Leafs fans who seem to always hugely overvalue or hugely undervalue their own players.

Of course, the same ones always hugely overvalue or hugely undervalue the players they want to trade for, so I suppose it balances out.

I guess I should have included a :sarcasm:.

I do believe hayton is a reach personally

And fans are all guilty of overrating their prospects, sandin is good..personally i really like him and believe he could turn into a solid second pair guy or easily anchor third LD

Its ok.. i barely know how to use it

Not like i am a huge fan of weegar but man.. i never understood the fascination with dermott. Its like people got mesmermized be of how much he made his arms move
The missed opportunity to get Weegar is a huge pet peeve, particularly when considering how little we ended up getting for Dermott and Johnsson.

We could have gotten Rielly's RHD partner for years to come and our D corps would be set:

Rielly-Weegar
Muzzin-Brodie
Gio-Liljegren
Sandin

I'm still holding out hope that Calgary doesn't resign Weegar and we can offer a package to get him. It would finally be a long term solution, and our D corp really could be set with Topi waiting to come in when we move on from Brodie, and Sandin ready to fill either Gio's or Muzzin's roster spot.......

What is he now around 3 or 3.5 yeah that would have been workable to keep. It would have probably stimulated trading muzzin or brodie this season to recapture any value they have left with 2 yrs remaining and prepare to have money to re sign weegar

Would have been a very interesting pickup

You didn't miscast them as a "good offensive team", you miscast them as being "built to win".

You may also want to re-visit McElhinney's results outside his aberration year. Please don't tell me about cups he won without playing a single minute.

They were built to compete. Far better team than the 2014-15 Avalanche.

McElhinney was 24th in the league in GSAx in 2018-19, the year Dubas let him go for Sparks. That is all I'm referring to.

Recall when Our Leafs were playing the Flames at the saddle dome and Tkachuk landed on top of Campbell then Muzzin flips the puck at Tkachuk?

Even then Tkachuks teammates were angry at him complaining that he is always trying to hog the spotlight.

Right there you know even some of his teammates didn't like the guy. Yes I realize you don't have to like your teammates/fellow workers but all you have to do is work with them for the most part.

Back then I was saying that Calagary needed a guy like that and should stand up for him,....they didn't and kinda threw him under the bus. (maybe why he wanted out,..who knows)(things can bug you in the back of your mind and you just abide your time and get out when you see fit )

I guess my point is,..maybe Tkachuk becomes not just a shift disturber on the ice but becomes a shat disturber amoungst his teammates the way he conducts his own swagger and maybe becomes a team destroyer in a sense. So,..in time we may have to take in account and see how well his new teammates and team responds to his style of swag.

I know for a fact Torts would have loved this guy and stood behind him until the end or,..haha (I think) or,...maybe,.... they would have killed each other. Nevertheless, we have to take into account if MT is a team wrecking ball because Florida has not had this type of player swag ratting it up lie the actual rats they use to throw.

Maybe Calgary wins this trade in the long run,..we'll have to wait and see. ;)

Very happy for calgary to get hubby signed. Watched him since he was sea dog so I'm glad he's getting the recognition and hopefully more sooooo now that he is in a Canadian market.

Is our team making anymore moves this summer no? Is we done yet or is we not? Is the shakespeare question. And whom will move on us if we ain'ts?

I find the largely positive reaction to the Huberdeau contract here interesting given how much constant angst there is over Tavares.
Tavares is a few years older and looks to be slowing down while Huberdeau seems to be peaking.
Probably better to judge in 3 or 4 years .
