We need a forward more than a defenceman. You aren't getting any production from this bottom 6 likely come playoff time.

The 3-4 horseman of the apocolypse

Kerfoot
Engvall
Holl
Sandin(?)

They gotta upgrade 3C, top 4D and top 6F assuming goaltending holds up.

The top 3 in particular need to go yesterday.

We need both. We have nothing to handle tough match-ups on the back end.

In the bottom 6, we need a different mix more than we need more talent.
I doubt we can get both, it's going to be astronomically expensive and that type of defenseman is almost impossible to aquire

We'd be better off getting a good two way 3rd line center
We'd score more which helps and good defensive centers make life easier for the defenseman you do have

I think we’re going to find it pretty difficult to actually upgrade Kampf.

Kampf isn't a 3rd line center, he's to offensively challenged
We need somebody who can defend and score

There are a few guys on bad teams that could become available who would fit that profile

Main board has a BS, Tyler Myers deal to Toronto.

If true, I find it interesting that Dubas is going for low cost options considering it may be his last year here. Maybe he doesn't have power to make a trade without approval.

Dubas would be scooped up in an instant.
Do you really care if Dubas is scooped up? Good riddance.....

Boeser is a 25 + goal scorer who would cost very little and the Canucks may be willing to retain a bit as well.

To
Vancouver
2024 2nd
2023 3rd
Kerfoot
Holl

To
Toronto
Boeser 1.1 mill retained (5.57 mill)

This gives us a potential 30 goal 60 point winger for a very low cost and we still have our 2023 1st to target a D or 3c. With kerfoot and holl out we still have 5.6 million in cap as well. Boeser is the very best player we could aquire at such a low price.

Kampf is an excellent 3rd line center.

You’re talking about adding a top-6 center and dropping them on our 3rd line.

We're at the point in the Dubas years in the summer of 2023 where we are going to lose regulars to free agency who are net team liabilities.

Kampf wouldn’t be bad if we had two stronger wingers playing with him on the third line.

Ideally however, we keep Kampf on the fourth line and re-sign him. With Anderson doing really well for the Marlies, I’d like to see a fourth line of Aston Reese - Kampf - Anderson given a look.

Yes, linemates impact individual scoring, as does situational usage.

Sure, it would be nice to push an excellent 3rd liner down to the 4th line, but we have more important positions to address.

The way this team is constructed, it has a lot of positions to address unfortunately.

Toronto has too many holes to fill right now, probably shouldn’t be wasting assets this year with all the holes we have.

Current needs are; Top 4 Dman to replace Muzzin, Top 6 winger, 3rd line C, and probably someone better then Engvall on the 3rd line.

That’s a lot of holes to fill.

Not overly enthusiastic to hear the Leafs are interested in Tyler Myers.

I thought he would be a decent target.

Gotta make the Cap work, but also have to look at the cost to acquire.

I think the Leafs defensive issue isn't limited to Sandin.
Holl
Giordano
Sandin
One of these has upside, and certainly he doesn't skate as well as Holl, and he flubs some passes, but I do not believe he consistently fails to clear as often as Holl does. How many goals are directly attributable to both of these players? Again, one is 30 years old, and one is 22.
IMO, Giordano, is getting a free pass, he took a huge hometown discount, he's a vet, he brings a tonne of experience, previously as a Norris winner, but he really hasn't been good he's been adequate as a depth defender.

I think Myers would be an improvement on all 3 of them.

This team badly needs a 3C. Bigger than the needs for a top 6 winger and a Muzzin replacement at the moment. Keefe has tried just about every 3C option available and nothing has worked.

It won't be popular and definitely beating a dead horse, but how much better off would we be if Dubas had just kept it simple at the Expansion draft, kept McCann, and exposed/lost one of Kerfoot or Holl?

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
McCann-Tavares-Marner.

We have a better top 6 with one less hole to plug, and removes a player from our roster, most likely Kerfoot, who really isn't a great loss. Meanwhile, we'd have the better player who can play LW or C if needed.

There, I said it, and I will leave it at that......

This conversation will be talked about 10 years later too. People need to get over it. Imagine if Burke didn't draft Biggs and Percy. Where would we be?
