If true, I find it interesting that Dubas is going for low cost options considering it may be his last year here. Maybe he doesn't have power to make a trade without approval.

50% retention and a kicker to take Myers wouldn’t be awful. He’d replace Holl as a #5/6 guy who has to play higher if there are injuries. Provides the same D as Holl, but more physical. Wouldn’t be the worst idea to then flip Holl to capitalize on a pending UFAs value but also replacing him only adding 1 mill.

the league should adopt a math trade mentality . every team lists available players and wants, and an algorithm exports suggestions for every team
why are these board so bullish on rentals all of a sudden . 2 years ago it was all about getting players with term and now its the opposite. Unless these players sign exptensions i wouldnt do it ,,, period.

Definitely not the sexy choice. But, looking at defensive options would Myers not be a greater addition or comparable addition to the likes of Gavrikov, Zub, Murphy? He is a 6'8 minute muncher who can make physical contact and play in defensive situations. He is also rather inexpensive to add.
I kind of see it like the Murray move. It is heavy boom-bust. Could be a nightmare or he could be the missing piece. Bit of a gamble.

The 2 year term may also fit the Leafs well. Similar to Murray's deal. If they land Gavrikov or Zub they immediately have to enter negotiations for a 5 year contract. If they trade for Murphy they have to commit 4 years at over 4M per to him. With a retained Myers you get someone you don't have to worry about replacing right away and you get someone you don't have to worry about committing long term space too.

If deployed right Myers can do a specific job well, I'm just not sure who you play him with. Giordano? If Muzzin was healthy that would probably be the best combo.

I'm assuming both players extend with us. Kane would be hard to fit but it's doable if Muzzin is done.

I'm definitely coming around to this. I think the D is good enough to run by committee+ good systems (which the Leafs have).
Adding another scoring forward into the top 9 (especially a legit 3C) would have the biggest impact

Thank you. The Leafs throw away assets every year in trades and letting free agents walk. Look at what Tampa targeted with their top assets: Coleman/Hagel/Goodrow all had term.

alright enough with the dmen suggestions. defense is not this teams problem . we need to see goal scoring suggestions. no one can shoot on this team except the top 4 guys. we need a 3C that can generate offense or a winger to play in the top 6.

Not sure if that is the right kind of defenseman we need. We need the ones who can play defense. We pay $50 million for the bros to put up points. We need actual hockey players to make up for the others short comings
