He’s definitely not a fourth line center. He’s good for 30-35 points, brings size, physicality, sticks up for his teammates, plays hard every shift, is good on the draws and can kill penalties. Hard not to like Laughton and want him on your team IMO. Seems like Laughton is what everyone wishes Engvall would be with his size.

Matthews, Tavares, Laughton, and Kampf would be insane depth at the center position.

He's done 32 points, and 30 last year.... At his age, he'll trend down, not up. 2 points even strength in 12 games so far, the rest on the PP, and he won't see PP time here. I like everything else that you say, but I doubt he's more than a 25 point C going forward, with maybe one 25-30 point year left in him, unless his linemates really carry him.

I like everything else you say about him, but I think we need to aim a little higher on the offensive side... but I do see why you like him.

He had 30 points in 67 games last year. That’s just under 0.5 points per game, a lot better than Kampf who is only 1 year younger than Laughton.

Who do you think will be a better fit? That’s also realistic?

With the blues looking like they are faltering they may opt for a rebuild or a big retool. Colton Parayko should be at the top of the list. We have the assets to get him and if Muzz is done atleast until playoffs we only need to send back Engvall or kerfoot to allow him to fit.

Reilly. Parayko
Gio. Liljegren
Sandin. Brodie
Muzzin. Holl

Thats a very good D core and is better then we've had since drafting Marner, Matthews, and Nylander.

Parayko signed an 8 year contract extension with a NTC, I doubt he wants to move anywhere even if St. Louis has to retool a little.

Hes in his late 20s and is their most valuable tradeable asset. I think it's possible he could be moved.
Once they start moving valuable late 20's players with term it gets to a ludicrous level of rebuild
Schenn/Buchnevich/Saad/ Leddy/Faulk/Parayko/Krug would be a completely unprecedented sell of. Throw in Kyrou and Thomas and it also seems like an unnecessary one, as you've got the core of a good/great team there.

Throw in a top pick this year, trade returns from Tarasenko/O'Rielly/Barbashev/Acciari/Mikkola, buyout Binnington, and they could/should be in the mix again next year.

Their entire d corps outside of Parayko needs to be rebuilt. Hes older and would fetch a ton.

I didn’t know O’Reilly was an Ontario native. Could make things interesting considering we’ll probably be looking or should be looking for a third line center.

Imagine a third line with Knies and O’Reilly heading into the playoffs…

Does Kyle Dubas have permission to trade our 1st round pick without a contract extension? Does he have permission to trade Knies? Otherwise were not really offering anything. We might have to wait until the deadline when we pretty much know where we stand. Without that on the table we'll need to offer Niemela/Hirvonen etc and that'll lessen our return

We know he tried hard to trade Knies + 1st for Fleury + Hagel last year. We saw how well Hagel played against us, I wonder what could've been.

Anyways, I don't really have an opinion I'm just presenting things

Where did we hear that from? I would be shocked if he actually offered that.

That would have been gross, glad we didn't do it.
Hagel would've been sick on our team last year and this year, his cap is very low. We may have been able to resign Flower instead of getting Murray. That makes that trade look pretty decent. You basically speed up the asset of Knies, dump Mrazek (which we paid for anyways) and acquire a vet goalie.

Looks worse than it is I think. However, I get stuck where he says multiple 1sts

James Mirtle on his podcast also said this deal was a lot closer to happening than people think on his podcast
Yep. I wonder if someone above Kyle vetoed the thing and that's what had stopped it from progressing

To be fair, you have no clue if that is true. Was that the offer by Dubas or the demand from Chicago? If they agreed it would have got done. Not believing upper mgmt nixed it either. Dreger throws out names but no clarity of the details. Silly to assume anything at this point. But i would be shocked if Dubas offered Knies and 2 1st round picks. If I am Chicago of course I am asking for Knies. Doesn't mean Leafs said yes.
