If Muzzin is out long term I wonder if we go with forward upgrades instead of defense. You could in theory add a group of say O'Reilly @50%, Horvat @50% and Jenner while only needing to remove Kerfoot and Engvall.

Jarnkrok moved would allow you to either run a 22 man roster or upgrade the defense as well. Assuming Robertson would be moved for one of these guys or sent down, the forward group could look like this:

O'Reilly-Matthews-Marner
Jenner-Tavares-Nylander
Bunting-Horvat-Jarnkrok/Anderson
ZAR-Kampf-Malgin

Double down on the forwards. I can see it. Not sure they'll have the assets to trade for ROR AND Horvat at 50% though. That seems like a lot of future assets for 2 pending UFAs. One should be plenty.

Assuming status quo this season (1st round loss) Horvat would be a very interesting get for the Leafs in the off-season if the Leafs moved out Marner or Willy. I assume Horvat would get the Kadri deal 7x7. If the Leafs could pull off Dobson for Marner and sign Horvat for 7M they are cap neutral.

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Robertson-Tavares-X
Knies-Horvat-Steeves
ZAR-Kampf-Malgin

Rielly-Liljegren
Sandin-Dobson
Giordano-Brodie

Murray
Samsonov

Muzzin (5.626), Kerfoot (3.5), Engvall (2.25) pay for raises for Kampf (2?), Bunting (3.5?), Samsonov (3?) and a 2RW Brown?

Says Toronto decline due to the futures involved, my guess is once Chicago wanted Knies involved, the deal/conversation ended.
I can’t remember which podcast I heard it but it was heavily implied Shanny stepped in and blocked the trade.

I wouldn’t want to trade any quality future assets for any rentals.

I can see St. Louis working with ROR in finding him a good fit if he wants to leave which would probably involve a contract extension. Then I wouldn’t mind parting with a 1st or whagever

I don’t see Horvat being okay with playing behind Matthews and Tavares. ROR seems like a better fit IMO.

Wild gm Guerin laugh you off the phone. In what world do you think 2 players signed to 3 years extension this offseason including min #1d in Jacob Middleton along with duhaime Are traded? Not even realistic
I am sorry, but are you saying Middleton is a #1d?

I'd expect nothing less from somehow who cowardly hides their post history.

You can pencil him in as 2C if he has an ego. With the wingers proposed it doesn't really matter. He would still get his minutes on PP1 with Marner out of the picture and he would get PK1 so he would realistically play the highest minutes among forwards since no one else would play PP1 and PK1. I prefer Horvat over ROR due to age and I'd rather have the guy who hasn't won a cup and is still hungry. ROR looks lifeless this year (from what I've seen) and he will be 32 next summer. Horvat will be 28.

We can't resign Horvat, so that doesn't work. He will cost more than ROR, due to RFA status. He's having a much better season, too, although ROR brings more anger.

At 7x7 that's just 1 Muzzin and half of Kerfoot.
His agent just mentioned how Horvat is a number 1 center on any team in the league. He’s not going to want to come and play behind Matthews and Tavares. He’ll also expect to get paid as a number 1 center.

I’d love to get Horvat, don't get me wrong but don’t think it’s possible or worth paying the price for a rental.

Didn't we just do this with Kadri?

That was broken up dating back to like game 3: false
Then why do they currently sit 2nd in icetime?

Horvat isn't going to play as a #3C, or even #2C... it's just not going to happen. If you want him as a rental, fair enough, but don't be under any pretenses that he'll do anything but go to UFA, and maximize his value.

It seems like their is no middle of the lineup guys anymore.

You have your stars and your role players, but the days of the second/third line players are gone. The tweener offensive guys are being weeded out of NHL lineups.
