Post-Game Talk: Habs defeat the Panthers in OT

Caufield or Slaf.
1st PP you have limited options to play net front. Other than Slaf, maybe Suzuki? Maybe instead you want to bolster a decent 2nd PP unit by doubling up Suzuki+ movebothCaufield&Slaf? And stuff instead of Slaf any big body, like Armia, Anderson maybe Heineman or Dach as net Front on the 1st PP?

I never understood why anyone would want to place our best puck distributor in front of the net? We wouldn't put Hutson there and we shouldn't put Suzuki there. Those two are the elite puck handlers and the players who need to have the most touches on our PP.

Just caught up with the game

Tough one but it’s even sweeter to see them tough it out and win. High pressure moments, intensity, etc.

In the mix, playing competitive games… isn’t this more valuable than tanking for a fourth straight year? I’m not fully convinced but it gives food for thought. I was anti-tank since the start but after picking up Demidov in TankYear3 and the awful first third to this season, it felt like another tank was the better call. Today, I’m feeling like I was wrong. These games surely have value to the development of our principal players… or at the very least expose their room to improve (Slafkvosky — with another 1 SoG game).

Suzuki is a gorgeous player; we are lucky to have him and Hughes knows he should get the man some help and play some playoff games asap. Careers are short and players this special deserve to compete to win and fans deserve to see it happen. This is what it’s all about. He took the Team Canada snub personally which is precisely what elite athlete should do.

Hutson… he tilts the ice. He seems to focused on improving and developing his game. Does the little things right. Incredible and dynamic player.

As we hurtle toward the season’s finish line our love for hockey reignites. Nothing beats high pressure hockey. The game is so fast and so dynamic that a single play can lead to a sudden dagger goal. Heart attack hockey is what I missed for the past few years.

Great game! Great win!

Glad everyone's ok in here now. I had to shut off HF Boards after the 1st because the game thread was so negative and there was so much finger pointing.

3rd youngest team in the NHL. They have totally defied expectations by being in a playoff spot on April 1st after two big wins against the defending Stanley Cup champs. People need to cool down and just enjoy this.
We are turning into the Cardiac Kids with so many late comebacks. The AVs game was scary good.

Actually, 2nd youngest team.

It is kind of insane how much criticism Slafkovsky gets. Kid just turned 21 and is playing against the top players in the NHL every night.

He works the boards at both ends of the ice, and often comes deep to help out his D. He & Suzuki will switch up in the D zone depending on who gets back 1st.

He wins board battles in the offensive zone and often causes turnovers by other teams. He's playing in the hard areas at both ends.

The Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky line is like a top 5 line in all of hockey. Lol

Habs got some luck there with Reinhart fumbling the easy block, but they'll take it !
They were lucky to be leading , with decades of watching hockey , I came to accept that more often then not the team that tries hard and does the right things gets the lucky breaks and bounces .
We see good teams like Florida get them often , we finally did get one tonight . But it took a great play by Hutson to even be remotely close to getting that luck

I’ve stopped reading the GDT the last few games and the narrative on these boards compared to what i watched is night and day.

The GDT last night was so negative when I read it at night, but I thought the habs played an excellent game against one of the best teams in the league.

Everyone got way to used to catasrophizing under MB

I wonder if Caufield's latest scoring slump is him no longer having that extra jump or just the tight checking we see at this time of the year limiting his chances. We rarely see him have games with 4 or more shots lately

Yup, I thought they played a great game, and Slafkovsky played fine. People get over hyped on a shift by shift basis. It's a live reaction, too though.

I really thought they were going to lose after the icing. Suzuki loses the draw, too. Barkov gets a shot & who's back to corral the puck? Slafkovsky.

Hutson & Suzuki both take off. Slafkovsky outlets to Hutson from behind our net, which is hilarious because it should be the other way around. But, it was a great pass & started the rush.

The team worked hard & struggled at times getting through the neutral zone. But, ultimately, they got it done. In a most unbelievable way, too.
