Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

47th times a charm!
Yeah I'm sick of this "unlocking Kreider and Zib" bullshit. The reality is that these two guys should never see an even strength or power play line together. They just don't f***ing work.

Mika is not a center, he's a defensive liability, Kreider is a lazy player who is slowly losing his speed and can't hang with 1st line defenders anymore.

I'm sick of the same charade

EF believes Gavrikov and Bennett will stay with their teams. The Chychrun numbers are the new reality. The new cap projections changed everything. The Caps didn't see themselves giving Chychrun $72M. The new Canadian TV contract will only see the cap go up more. Boeser has a number and the Canucks are below that number.

You think boeser is a good target for a team like NYR? I do not watch him so I am not sure.

Well boy f***in howdy, if 9 for Chychrun is the new reality, then it sure would be smart if somebody took a much better player -say, I don't know, an average Norris finish of about 4, just spitballing here- and locked that player up at 9.5.

Let me paint a picture for you: the guy I'm thinking of, hypothetically, is scoring more points in his worst year than Chychrun is in his best year, and you got them for effectively the same price.

Don't you think that would be just great? Somebody should do that.
It makes you realize what a good deal Borgen is at 5.5

No. Like the player. However, Boeser will get a big contract and the Rangers already have some tickets on their books. Miller and Boeser do have a good history playing on the same line in Vancouver. The Lotto line with EP40. It will end up being too rich. The Rangers need to figure out where some of their young guys fit and clear out some of their own high priced wingers before getting involved in another significant contract for a winger. Panarin has another season remaining at $11,642,857 and two more seasons of Kreider at $6.5M. That $11,642,857 is the still the highest cap for any winger. Ranatanen's $12M starting next season will surpass it. The Rangers signed Panarin to that deal in 2019. It took 6 years for another player to surpass that number. Boeser is a right handed shooting forward and those guys are hard to find. Too much money and term. Pass.

I think the Rangers adds this summer are going to be of the "young player who needs a change of scenery" variety. The Ducks have been tied to the Rangers for awhile now. Zegras is obvious as a local guy. I think he can find his potential in NY. McTavish is another guy but probably not someone the Ducks would deal lightly. Would they be a match for Panarin? He can reunite with some ex-teammates including his caddy Stromer. Panarin for Zegras or McTavish and a pick? Maybe we can pry the kid Mintyukov from them? The Mighty Ducks actually have some pieces and the West isnt deep.

The other guy I was thinking about recently was Cam York. Has the relationship soured completely in Philly? He's a pending RFA. Rough year this year and his rift with Torts broke the camels back. We need puck moving defenseman. Kreider for York and a pick? Kreider can reunite with his high school linemate Garnet Hathaway. York can play with Fox or Borgen but at least we'd have some youth and potential in our top 4.

Zegras has had a horrible 2 years , I think he could be had on the cheap

Othmann plays a game that requires physicality for him to be effective. Perrault does not. If Gabe has trouble adjusting it won’t be because of being “slight”… It takes a couple few seasons for young players to catch up to the strength of players in this league. This is why power forwards take longer than finesse forwards, they rely on that strength. This is why I don’t think Ryan Leonard is going to be super effective right out of the gate.

We'll see, I love Perrault as a prospect but I think like every good prospect we have we're overhyping him. Personally I think he needs time in the AHL to get used to the physicality, speed and 82 game schedule that comes with the nhl, that's just my opinion. I hope I'm wrong but we've seen this whole show before and he's likely gonna start in the top six tonight but end up with less minutes as the game goes on.

I get that. I’m just saying that as his game isn’t reliant on physicality he should adjust more quickly than a power forward type. Hopefully they handle this right.

I feel like the team is one defenseman and one forward away from being very good. But UFA is very thin this summer. Gonna have to be a trade or two.
I imagine Drury recognizes that one of our biggest problems is lack of speed. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ehlers is his main target in FA, and maybe trading Othmann and a draft pick for a guy like Hoglander. I think we need more than one Dman, but hopefully defense is the point of emphasis this summer.

People are wanting to run Mika out of town and bring in the younger version of Mika to replace him in Zegras lmao

I like Zegras and would take him on my team, but people would complain about him almost immediately

Jones was given pp1 and was pretty ineffective doing what was supposed to be his best trait.

Not entirely his fault, but yeah. He's not as skilled with the puck as it appeared he was in the flashes we saw. he also cant get the play out of his own zone. Not ideal for a pipsqueak like him. In all likelihood he will be the 6/7 next year.
