Not as good and too much of a logjam at LD, Dubas drafted so well that he has too many viable options at LD.

ZAR wanted to cash in, didn't get it, took less to sign with us and as we've seen, playing in the spotlight here = big pay increases.

Lybushkin, Mikhayev, and Campbell etc all got more so ZAR...who is an absolute steal at his current rate going to 1.75M isn't that upsetting, especially if he's in that 2-3 year contract range, after that I hesitate as the play style could take it's toll.

With the players re-assigned to the Marlies there may not be a need for Aston-Reese next year.

That would be the best option, fill in these lowest ranked positions with ELC's.

Who's even a candidate to do the match up thing? Holmberg on wing? McMann?

We don't exactly draft for the role.

Someone remind me please:

When we waive a player and he clears, if we call him up for injury coverage, do we have to re-expose him to waivers to send him back down when we are healthy again?

That’s what I seem to recall……. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

Waivers is designed to prevent deep teams from stashing players in the minors that would otherwise be in the league. They get exposed on the way down.

There will be loads of UFA players next year. Find the best deals for the 4th line.

Burke did with Gauthier.

I'm guessing talented players who can't score in the pros become match-up players.

Is it Minten?

I'm not sure it is Holmberg, as he seems to be a complementary player. In a good way. Good followers make leaders' jobs easier.

Not sure he is cut out to be a line driver, and yeah I think you need a line driver even if the line's role isn't to produce, but to limit the other team's production.

I'm not that eager to get Kral in the lineup tbh. Definitely not a muzz replacement.

And we're not gonna pay a 4th line winger that much ever I hope.

I’d say McMann, Douglas, and Ellis are all being developed for that role.
There’s a year for them to develop further.
McMann and Ellis didn’t look far off from being 4th line options during camp. And Holmberg has the smarts for the job.

Hoping Minten has more offensive upside, if he could be our Cirelli it would be huge.

Kral is good and will be ready for the NHL by next year, no sense in delaying.

ZAR is pretty versatile, just think "bottom 6"

I thought Ellis was pretty useless to the point I wouldn't have wasted an ELC on him.

Douglas is a project, we will see after this year in the AHL if it paid off. McMann is a candidate for 4th line next year. Give him PK and defensive match ups galore in AHL this year in preparation.

Something like this looks much more attractive to me tbh:

$2.385m in capspace to fill the last 2 spots and kids like Niemela Hirvonen Amirov on the marlies as depth:

Not really interested in going 5M on Bunting because of Knies, Robertson and Amirov in the system, it's a spot we're pretty deep.

Anyone who plays with those 2 will put up points, we had people jumping over the edge because Hyman was able to go...it's no different, you find someone else to plug and play in that role and 60 points is pretty attainable.

I figure Kampf is getting minimum deal Jarnkrok got, maybe a hair more because we use him as a centre.

And I like mine more.

Maybe we both change our tunes depending on how the rest of the 82 + playoffs go. Even in OP, it is super early for me to start projecting.

Yeah you can't pay that spot medium-big money through their 30s, it's a position that takes a lot of abuse on the boards and in front of the net. Kerfoot money should be the ceiling on it for guys in their mid-late 20s.

Surprisingly all Leafs players cleared this time around.

I'd expec the Leafs to try hard to find a new home for Simmonds if possible, and perhaps clear cap space.

3 of the 4 players I wanted to claim/look at got claimed. Mahura, Fjallby and Ingram.

I hope the Leafs can trade for Bemstorm.

Marlies are gonna be deep.

By my math, the only waiver eligible guys left are Malgin, Benn and Dahlstrom…..Two of whom are about to hit the injured list?

Expect some trades now that they've cleared waivers.

Maybe, I’m thinking there’s little reason at this point to move Gaudette and JoeyA, they’re the two that add a whole new scoring line.

yeah i'm thinking more vets like simmonds. he became more attractive to other teams after clearing waivers.
