yeah i'm thinking more vets like simmonds. he became more attractive to other teams after clearing waivers.
I agree, and don’t see much of a role for him here anyway.
I imagine he’ll only get into games to stay sharp/showcase.
Either way, he’s a good guy being a good pro so wish him the best.

Another player that I think the Leafs will try to get is Connor Timmins from Arizona. He just cleared waivers and has had a lot of injuries thus far. Also played for the Soo in Junior.

I'd trade someone like Anderson for him, to get extra D depth on the Marlies. Not sure how healthy he is though.

Surprised he was on waivers. Good Thorold kid would be a great add.

Absolutely loved Timmins as a prospect early on. Head injuries have really taken a toll on him.

Hopefully he can play a full season this year.

Timmins is too broken IMO. Even if he recovers from his current injury, he is one shot to the head from serious damage and he should serious consider his future.

Bemstrom, even though he is a forward, probably still makes the most sense for both teams. Moverare would too if LA didn't seriously lack LD.

At the same time, I think there is a better chance that Anderson becomes Marchment 2.0 than Marchment.

Maybe, I’m thinking there’s little reason at this point to move Gaudette and JoeyA, they’re the two that add a whole new scoring line.

The only reason you move them, is to give them a chance somewhere else. I doubt that JoeyA gets a shot with us. Gaudette has a chance as a 4th line injury call up.

But neither costs us much money, helps the Marlies and are cheap depth. So keep them for now.

I like Kampf, but I’m not sure he comes back. A raise from $1.5 mil is a lot to spend on a 4C. We are grooming Douglas for that spot, and he has an element Kampf doesn’t. I guess we hope Douglas grows his game enough to play there.

I also can’t help but think we might need to move Kerfoot at some point this year. I guess we give it a bit of time to see what we have at the NHL level with Malgin as well as some time for Robertson and Holmberg. If somehow they are good enough, and Kerfoot can be replaced, that would help out a great deal.

I can't believe Robertson didn't make the opening roster. Granted I haven't seen much of him this pre season. If the Leafs think there is no place for him trade him. It's been what ? 3,4 years now. I am sure lots of teams would love him and play him. I feel bad for the kid.

He made the team, and there will be a place for him. He understands what is going on and will get a lot of NHL games this year. The only reason he won’t be on the roster game one, is the cap. Even then, I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s called up as an emergency call up.

A good team will usually have these problems. It sucks for the player in the moment but it will work out soon.

Mete, Clifford, Simmonds and Gaudette all clear.

With no Leafs being picked up on waivers, we have offically entered an alternate reality. This is the year.

Auston Matthews threw the curse to the Blue Jays with the first pitch just before playoffs. The Blue Jays collapse marks the first curse-free year for the Toronto Maple Leafs

They likely play game 1 a player short and have an emergency call up available for Robertson game 2

Victor Mete, Kyle Clifford, Wayne Simmonds, and Adam Gaudette passed through waivers without getting claimed

These guys can come and go without waivers for 30 days now right?

Considering the Leafs always seem to lose random players to waivers, this season is already off to a success by keeping everyone lol

Though with Kampf, the coaches seem to trust him being on the ice against higher lines. Which they may not be so quick to with a replacement guy. I won't be surprised if they end up re-signing him depending on how the season unfolds.

What you speak about Kampf certainly is true. I think it comes down to cost a little bit... and of course, if the current management team is still here, if the current coaches are still here. I mean, I hope we have some success finally, but without it, there will be some changes here.

I went back, and looked at my lineup in Capfriendly, for 2022-23, and I had resigned him there at his current cap hit. There certainly is no harm, even if Douglas is ready, in Kampf being on the same line as Douglas, he certainly would be decent teacher, if they played together.

What is interesting about some of the talk around Bunting is the following....

let's say that three of the following four players, looks ready for the NHL, and are good players.... Roberston, Amirov, Knies, Malgin... I mean, Robertson and Malgin appear to be good now. Both Amirov if he continues his recovery, and Knies could be solid additions.... well, now we have an interesting question, that few seem to have brought up....

I'm also assuming that this is Muzzin's last year with the org.

We have a ton of depth in wingers... with a 18man roster, including ZAR @ $850k, and Muzzin out... and just Murray signed as a goalie, and five D, we have $13.4 mil in cap space.

We could allocate $5 mil of that to Bunting... or maybe we could get Patrick Kane for the same price? Or close? What about D instead, Dumba or Mayfield... I don't think the question should be, do we keep Bunts or not, but what the other options might be. Or if we need any wingers at all.

I think Timmins and Barrett Hayton could both become Leafs at some point in the future just due to their Soo connections.

I always got Peter Holland vibes off Barrett Hayton and I have zero idea why since I have seen maybe a handful of games of him at the NHL level...so maybe I should ignore the sample size lol.

Nashville subreddit saying Tomasino will start in the AHL...if true, I hope we're checking in on pricetag.

Would be a really nice skilled ELC piece. I loved him in Niagara, very high IQ and good skill level.

He was very good in the OHL. I am wondering if his career will have a Turris type progression.

I’m all for not resigning Bunts at that price but the only thing that gives me pause is how tight him and AM are. No idea what the dynamic is but if shipping off Bunting pisses off AM and resigning him gives him more reason to resign himself then I get a little more flexible.

Maybe it’s not a thing and they’re complete professionals who understand it’s part of getting millions of dollars to play a game? Just gives me pause.

Sounds like just a player to start in the AHL while the team is healthy and no other waiver exempt players. Very similar situation to Robertson in a way.

Strange move by Nashville, I doubt he is available, but a phone call is cheap.

I think you can project quite easily what everyones numbers will be, at the very least close to.

Leafs very likely know what Matthews wants and expects from his other contract, the problem is that they can't sign before July 1st. Bunting is a UFA on July 1st. There's apparently already a contract ready for Matthews, so now it's about filling the other holes.

If Bunting is willing to take market value, or a hair under, I think it would be beneficial for both sides. It depends on term. They were very close to keeping Hyman a few years ago. Leafs need to find stability and veterans to stick around longer with the core. They can't keep finding 60 point players on 900k cap hits. It's not like they can't be traded later on if things get even tighter.

...and what if you could sign Patrick Kane for the same money?

In Friedmans 32 thoughts:

"Believe Toronto will continue exploring waiver-exempt or waiver-cleared defensive depth thanks to three preseason injuries. The Maple Leafs have a surplus of depth forwards. "

Defenseman to look at : Bayreuther, Timmins, Moverare, Priskie and Lagesson from the top of my head. They'd add some solid depth from the Marlies. (Yes, I know they aren't that great. Yes. I know.)
