If Florida is in desperate need to clear out some salary, Reinhart is a guy I wouldn’t mind slotting into our top six.

To Toronto: Sam Reinhart
To Florida: Alex Kerfoot + Ryan Tverberg + 2025 3rd Round Draft Pick

Removing Reinhart and inserting Kerfoot and Duclair (back from injury), the salaries are exactly equal helping Florida stay under the salary cap.

Nylander - Matthews - Reinhart
Bunting - Tavares - Marner

Top six.

With these situations it's important to ask why Tanev is only logging 20 minutes a night on a team that is worse than us, yet should be a top pair guy worth giving up a lot of value for.

There is a separation between team performance, and collective personnel performance, that one has to evaluate, before attributing value to individual players. Calgary has one of the lowest xGA in the league, and Tanev is arguably their best defensive D man, as he's proven throughout his career. Markstrom however, is sporting a 0.889 SV percentage, and their offense hasn't performed that well.

Calgary has one of the best D cores... on paper, in the NHL.

That being said... I doubt Calgary ends up in the position, of being a seller.

Would you move Nylander for Kerfoot + Tverberg and a third?

Why would Florida consider this? They'd surely get a much better return, for a guy who was PPG last year.

I'd sign off on that without second thought which makes me believe that Florida would never, ever do that deal.

I didn’t realize Reinhart was over a PPG player last year. I always thought he was good for 40-60 points a year like his usual and what he’s projected to finish this year off with his current production.

That offer clearly was a dream lol

That's a lot of moving parts.

As @TMLAM34 suggests, Arizona isn't going to retain, so that's a $4.3 mil contract we are going to be taking on. Crouse is the main piece here, and I wonder how much in assets we should be giving up, when we have multiple LW prospects about to join the team in the next year. Crouse isn't much of a passer, and seems to score a lot off the rush, but we could use his size, and physicality, and with Marner feeding him and Tavares, that could be a pretty juicy line.

Fisher has some size too, which would be nice.... Looking across his stats, something made me laugh... he's had 15 faceoffs this year... he's won.... ZERO.... I mean, we aren't getting him for faceoffs, but it's still kind of funny that you couldn't luck into one win.

I think you just let them keep Boyd and Brown though, and not make the deal so complicated. I also doubt that Arizona would move Crouse anyway, so they might hang up the phone on you right away, or try and hook you into overpaying for Chychrun while you are on the phone.

I can't see them trading Crouse after just signing him in the off season. I also can't see them sending Crouse this way unless Knies is going back the other way. And for me the only way Knies goes there is if Crouse and Chychrun come here at fair value. Not what they're reportedly asking for.

For me, the only guy that ARI has that really excites me is Hayton as a guy we can get for a discount.

Chychrun and Crouse are overrated and cost a lot more than they are worth.

Anyone have any knowledge about Bemstrom out of Columbus? He recently cleared waivers and is putting up big boy numbers in the AHL. His advanced numbers make him look like a defensive specialist which is interesting considering his past production from 2018-2021.

Kevin Papetti on Twitter posts about him a lot. He's been pushing for the Leafs to make a move for him.

I can't say I know all that much about him though.

A month or so ago, I liked him a lot because he gives more skating and offence from the back end. Not just in terms of points, but in terms of transition and puck movement. Something the Leafs lack. Now though I think it's much less of a need for obvious reasons. It goes to show how much needs change over the course of a season.

Bjugstad and Laughton would be very average, and I'd be shocked if the Flyers traded Laughton. Boyd is even less of a needle mover. Not sure how better they are compared to Holmberg. Might as well just go hard after a winger if the best you can do is Bjugstad or Boyd.

Toews fits perfectly fine at 50%. It will require probably a shorter roster for the last quarter of the season but then the Leafs can bolster back up for the playoffs.

Bjugstad, Boyd and Laughton aren’t sexy names, but they are reliable players that fit onto the third line and would improve the depth of the club.

I think if we add Knies, one of those three names, and then see what else we can add on the defensive and/or winger side in terms of furthering our depth, we’ll be set up very well.

It’s possible we go big fish hunting, there’s a long way to go, but I just don’t think we need to do so.

We just need to add a third line Center than can contribute some offense

He is a speedy offensive forward who doesn't really have a set spot in the NHL.

He is not a forward that I think really fits CBJ's identity, especially if he can't be a top 6 guy, but would fit well with the Leafs' bottom 6.

Add in CBJ is not a cap team and he makes 900k over the next two years even if he is in the minors and I can see them being somewhat motivated to move him, even if it is not for a lot.

RW Emil Bemstrom

:cbj
RW/LW Vlad Kara
RW/LW Pavel Gogolev (contract)

Bemstrom would be in tough to crack this team, but he is another NHL depth for this year and can compete for a job next year. Leafs won't really need to worry about wing depth at all at the TDL. If the Marlies can improve his two-way game, then he is a valuable asset for this team when Engvall, ZAR, and Kerfoot move on.

Are you SoB... never noticed that until now... LOL suggesting that Bemstrom's defensive game needs work? Another guy on the Cleveland Monsters putting up obscene numbers is Trey Fix-Wolansky. 22 points in 14 games, but he's probably one of those AAAA guys... a bit too good for the AHL, but never going to make it in the NHL... 5'7" doesn't help.

His defensive game is not bad, but if he is only going to be a 30-35 point winger, then it needs to be better. He is more in "not a liability" territory than "defensive asset" territory.

However, we are specialists in transforming those types of guys and Bemstrom could be no different if he buys in for a year on the Marlies.

That's fair. Reliable players for sure but I think the Leafs and the amount of cap space they can put in, it's probably a better option to go after more capable players. Bjugstad hasn't put up over 40 points in 5-6 years and only once reached 20 goals almost a decade ago. Laughton never has. Boyd never has. They provide intangibles and probably other good things in lower roles though.

We'll see in a few months how things shape up though because a lot of things can change between now and then, I agree.

Christian Fischer too.

Depends what you think they are.

If you think Chychrun is a #1, then I would agree he's over-rated. If you think he's a decent puck-moving #2, that's pretty reasonable. If acquired, he would be our second best defenseman, though he isn't exactly the type of player we need to add.

If you think Crouse is a legit 1st liner, then he's over-rated. If you think he's a very good complimentary middle 6 winger, that's reasonable. If acquired, he would be our best LWer, and he might be able to replace what we lost when Hyman walked away.

Nylander is the better player without question but I get the point here.
