I don't hate a small addition up front, but ever since Muzzin went down, there's been a big void on defence. It's not ideal to have any of Sandin, Giordano, or Holl in the top 4 come playoff time (Liljergren might be a different story).

Weaponize Muzzin's LTIR cap space by retaining on Kerfoot 50% in an attempt to upgrade him.

Kerfoot double retained, once flipped again @50% RET by a rebuilding team, is a pretty nice TDL play.

To what end? Sounds needlessly complicated for a guy who already has a fine cap hit. Our cap space is worth more than whatever travel value boost we’d see. If we’re getting a better player in here than Kerfoot, we are already most likely adding cap in the deal anyway.

Six of Domi’s 14 points come on the PP. He wouldn’t get that ice time here. He’s got 8 Even Strength points, playing almost all of his time with Kane. I’m not saying he’s a bad player, just that his stats this year are inflated. Even strength, he’s not really an upgrade on Kerfoot. He’s not physical.. I’m not sure he’s what we want.

We really don't need a winger, one that is undersized at that. He's feisty but hardly moves the needle at all.

We really need to bolster the center spot. Holmberg has been good but I think for this year, it would be good to replace him with a big upgrade and keeping Kampf down the lineup. We have players that are versatile but if everyone is healthy, getting a Horvat or ROR to increase the quality and depth down the middle would really make it worth while.

We're pretty loaded with winger depth, even if the LW is worse than the RW. The quality is more than good enough.

Jarnkrok is on pace for 28 pts and 17 goals (would be a career high) - his numbers are fairly in line with where he's been in his career as a 3rd liner.

Maybe a Knies-Holmberg-Jarnkrok has more offense than what Kerfoot or Engvall provide?

can't count on knies joining. what if he says no again

If Leafs could land Horvat, it would be costly.

Is it worth the cost, for less than a year service?

I'd say the Giroux trade would be a comparable.

Claude Giroux was traded to the Florida Panthers by the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
Philadelphia received forward Owen Tippett, a first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft or 2025 NHL Draft, and a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft for the forward.
Florida also received forward prospects Connor Bunnaman and German Rubtsov, and a fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft.

Bunnaman and Robtsov look like throwaways.

If he doesn’t 110% want to be here, then we 150% don’t want him here….

……. Having said that, he’s said nothing to indicate anything beyond finishing his last year of college hockey and pursuing a championship before signing an ELC.

I swear you get worse all the time lol

Let's flip the Minnesota one and trade Jordie Benn and ZAR for Rossi/Folingo and a pick. Terrible value isn't it?

He would be very worth it. Very unlikely but not impossible to re-sign him as well, but it would require a couple other moves and probably some leniency from Horvat.

Yes I understand we're mortgaging the future here but all players we will be getting are all signed past this year.

My hope is Knies will have an easier time transitioning into an NHL role than a Robertson just on the basis of being a bigger body who can give you a few different looks, whether its try to generate some offense or at least bang around. Won't know for certain until he's up, but the tools are a little different.

Thoughts on picking up one of these two:

Eric Robinson
Sean Kuraly

Both are defensive forwards, and we aren't short on those types of players.

Not sure either upgrade anyone unless you are dropping ZAR, and ZAR with Kampf and Malgin has been good enough where you don't really feel a need to upgrade him if the plan is to use him on the shutdown line.

Damn, what happened to Kapanen? Anybody know? Still maturity issues plaguing him? Maybe a swap for kerfoot?

Haven't followed him super close, but he's always had a problem with hockey IQ. Poor decision making and reads despite having a great skillset... just seems like he never figured it out to take that next step and is stuck as a tweener that isn't reliable enough as a defensive player or consistent enough as an offensive player.

Kevin Weekes on ESPN radio: “Patrick Kane has stated several times that he does not want to be a Leaf, and that he wants to go to a team that he feels actually has a chance at the Stanley Cup.”
