I agree with those saying center should be our top priority. We should also see what is out there winger wise, but Matthew Knies will almost certainly be our winger addition come March, and we have plenty of depth regardless.

To me; defense isn’t worth spending the assets on right now. Rielly, Brodie, Liljegren, Giordano, Holl and Sandin are a solid enough base 6. I was all for replacing Holl but he’s stepped up recently. Benn, Mete and Timmins can play if needed. Benn specifically has looked solid.

Goaltending we are going to live and die with what we’ve got.

So yeah, we should be using the cap space from Muzzin’s LTIR on a Center.

I read that article and choked on the Erik Karlsson then choked again on the Matt Knies for Fabbro bit.

Was in the entire WTH moment when I saw it was Kypreos, and then it all made sense….

Rubbish.

His price tag is probably very low. The price probably just goes up depending on how much you want San Jose to retain.

Honestly if I was Mike Grier I’d be doing whatever it takes to get out of that deal with as little retention as possible lol

Future considerations with only 2M retained? DEAL!

Fabbro is who I view as a realistic future comp for Niemela. Well rounded #4 that won't carry a shutdown pair or be the go-to guy on an offensive pair, but could complement either.

If the team is trading assets for any D, it needs to be a physical, defensively minded guy. No need to acquire just any D for the sake of it, and if that stylistic player isn't available, just wait until the summer.

This summer reminds me of the Brodie/Tanev off-season. There is a boatload of #3-4 UFA D that could be available: Severson, Gavrikov, Zub, Dumba, Orlov, etc. with a second wave of Soucy, Mayfield, Graves, Gudas, etc.

I can’t imagine the price for Karlsson is that high due to his age and contract.

While you might be correct.... to have SJ retain... all of the sudden the cost goes up. To take on that full contract, even though he's excelling right now... it's almost you want him, he's yours, just to get out from under the contract.

Kane would be interesting because I'd wonder if you'd have a chance at an extension. He's made $115 Million over his career, wondering if at this point he would take a discount. 3X$4 Million or am I dreaming?

To Toronto: Jakob Chychrun
To Arizona: Rasmus Sandin + Nick Robertson + 1st Rounder

Chychrun - Liljegren
Giordano - Holl
Mete - Timmins

When healthy,

Chychrun - Liljegren
Rielly - Brodie
Giordano - Holl/Timmins
Serious question, is Chychrun better than Sandin? Because Sandin is playing 20+ minutes a night in our top 4 and getting some extremely good results

Can Chychrun do that and if he can how much better would he be because he's going to have to be unbelievably good to be a significant upgrade on Sandin if this level of play continues

We have a chance to grab someone to help the team this off-season for sure.

I've wondered and done scenarios at like 2 years 6-6.5M...not sure if it's about $ or cups or both for him.

If we had Fabbro we wouldn't need to, your set on RD for the foreseeable future with Fabbro and Liljegren in the top 4

If they were willing to do Fabbro for Knies I'd do that right now

Really? My viewings were sporadic but pretty underwhelming/vanilla.

Statistically though, gets a lot of O-zone starts but possession numbers etc mediocre.

I'm open to acquiring a young right shot D but Fabbro wouldn't be it for me. Schneider? You got my interest.

We're about 1-2 years late on Dobson...they probably felt good on NYI about Pulock and Mayfield...

Typically I would always go with the established D over the W prospect... but Knies just seems like he has a very high ceiling to be a very needed player and could have an impact as soon as this season, whereas Fabbro is fast approaching an average ceiling that is a mid pairing defenseman without any tools that stand out other than skating. And he's a RFA set to probably ask for over 4M over long-term.

I wouldn't do it in our current situation.

On our team I like Vanilla, it tends to balance out the thrill ride some of our other guys put me through

Remember he's only 24 which isn't much older than Liljegren and he's been playing with guys I'd describe as "rovers" much like Mo

Knies looks great but he hasn't even played a pro game yet, I'd take the certainty and position over the ceiling

I'd like to get Sandin, Liljegren and Fabbro tied up long term and build a defensive core around them and Rielly

That's 3 guys in your top 4 throughout there prime years

He hasn't played a pro game but I think he gets a lot of hype for good reason. He's got unique attributes that the Leafs players don't have and those attributes could make him a star/fan favourite in the short-term. He's likely pro ready as soon as he signs, and it could be as early as March.

There's wishful thinking there for sure because there is a lot of uncertainty with prospects but considering our expensive forwards and our tight cap space, Knies on an ELC is way too good to trade unless the player back is a legit star. Fabbro is a good player but I wouldn't not trade Knies for him in a 1 for 1.

The reward for trading Knies should be a lot higher than just Fabbro if it ever happens.

Toews would probably take that contract, and you'd shore up your 3C.

Kane won't take that at age 34. He's made a ton, but even at a 4 year contract, he likely gets $10 mil on the open market, and you would be asking him to give up $24 million.

That's fair but I think this team is well situated with forwards and the backend has been a problem historically
I want to fix that for the next decade and I think this deal does that

I like your idea in principle, but I'm not sure Fabbro moves the needle for me. To make such a move, I'd want someone to diversify the lineup more... someone with more size and physicality.

Wouldn't be enough for me just because Knies is a unicorn in our prospect pool...it's so hard to find guys who can play higher up in the line up with size/skill. He's not proven though so I can see why you are inclined to value a guy with NHL GP over a guy like Knies.

I think Predators would rather keep Fabbro though anyway as Preds have Trenin, L'Heureux and Jeannot in the organization already.

I just proposed this deal + on the mains and was told basically to keep my garbage.

I spoke to 3 preds fans who agreed 1st + Niemela would be the cost.

I really hope we stay away from Kane. Terrific player and exactly what the top6 needs, but if we're going to go big and spend the assets, we would be far better off spending them on quality depth guys with term. If we could secure the rest of this year and all of next year for a guy who scores 20 goals, hits, and costs us 1.5m for a just 1st round pick, I think we'd be nuts not to take it.

Something like a 2nd round pick + B prospect/contract for Dickinson at 50%. Then a 1st for someone else. I dunno who.

I'd rather do that and promote Knies, adding three players to our forward depth, rather than trade Knies, a 1st and a 2nd for Kane or whatever ridiculous price it would cost. Even a 1st and a 2nd for a rental Horvat would be better spent on improving the depth IMO. We already have four star forwards, what we desperately need is to rebuild the middle of the lineup. Give me back Kappy, Brown, and Moore.

That's fair but those guys aren't exactly falling out of trees and a good sound young right handed defenseman significantly improves this team right now

The Preds guys on the mains seem to think this may be cap related, they couldn't understand why he's coming up but something seems to be going on

I do like Knies but even if he ends up doing well for us I think the RD getting sorted for this playoff run and into the future has more value to the teams chances of progressing
