That's fair but those guys aren't exactly falling out of trees and a good sound young right handed defenseman significantly improves this team right now

The Preds guys on the mains seem to think this may be cap related, they couldn't understand why he's coming up but something seems to be going on

I do like Knies but even if he ends up doing well for us I think the RD getting sorted for this playoff run and into the future has more value to the teams chances of progressing

Maybe we could acquire Murphy for less than Knies, that would be ideal.

I've heard whispers that Fabbro wants to be a Canuck at some point, Hamhuis situation all over again except Fabbro isn't as good as Hamhuis of course.

I wouldn't mind it but I've got to the point where I just want a long term solution, I don't think Murphy is that but he'd be a good stopgap

He's an RFA so he doesn't have a ton of options and guys seem to want to stay once there here, even guys born outside of Canada

another forward I'd keep my eye on is Niederreiter. Can play the 2LW. No Ntc. We'll see where the preds are come TD.

Nino would be a massive upgrade on him and the value reflects that. I don't think it will be easy to acquire Nino at all though so it seems really not great. Knowing Nashville, they will just extend him anyway.

The Leafs pretty much only have room and assets for 1 big addition between now and deadline, even if they flip someone like Kerfoot. They have to really target a big area of need.

I wanted Nino in the off-season

I think a lot of us did, moving money last off-season was bloody challenging so I can't go at management to hard on that one

A 3C that can score is still our greatest need in my opinion
I like our top 6 but we need more production from the 3rd line and I think Holmberg would be a very good 2-way winger with somebody that can create offensively

I keep thinking about a puljujarvi for kerfoot swap.

Kerfoot is a versatile, defensive forward who can produce with talented linemates and expires after this season, so more cap room for the oilers. Puljujarvi is a big body who elevates his linemates but hasn't put it all together.

With EDM struggling for defense and Leafs needing a bigger body, I really think this could be a Sam Bennett type situation again.

This is what I would also consider if Niederreiter doesn't come here.

Kerfoot has a lot more value than Puljujarvi right now.

Puljujarvi is playing like Engvall without the defense... If Engvall was also playing in a pure offensive role instead of a pure defensive one and made 3 mill.

Jarnkrok has had his best games with the Leafs as a 2LW, so we should see how long he can ride that.

No real need to tinker with things too much. If we want, we can get Robertson/Malgin on the 3rd line to provide a different look and make it more offensive. At least now that Jarnkrok has found a way to be productive, everyone is doing something positive and that is why we are winning games.

Yeah I wouldn't look to get to drastic but I wouldn't mind some more scoring in the bottom 6

We defend very well but I do wonder if we had Holmberg and a good 2-way center beside him if we couldn't build a line you could put out against anyone that not only stops the other team scoring but could score as well and "win" those matchups

I think that would be useful in a long playoff series

Considering the brutal start, the injuries (both goaltenders, three of our top defenseman), the botched opportunities in extra time (5 OTL), and the early struggles from our top players, we're second in the Atlantic and fourth league-wide. That's pretty good heading into December. Hopefully we don't get complacent.

First question... how is it Nino is 30 already???

Next... 13 points in his last 53 playoff games..... You be the judge on that.

Gudas doesn’t move the needle. We already have a good third pairing defenceman in Holl who is great at killing penalties. We also have Timmins who could be even better.

If we’re going to help a divisional rival clear some cap, I’ll take Reinhart. Kerfoot + a prospect. Reinhart makes 6.5 million, Kerfoot and Duclair together make 6.5 million.

This would never happen but I’m not going to help and get worse to help a divisional rival.
This is the kind of opportunistic outside of the box thinking I love. Seems like a great and plausible move if Muzzin was confirmed done

Wonder if the Leafs claim Stralman here. Clearly a shell of his former self, but still a better option than Mete, Hollowell and Timmons and for 1 mill he can be buried when needed

If this was 4 years ago, sure. But hard pass on Stralman now. Not to mention we’d have to move out a contract to bring him in.

We're full to the brim with capable depth defensemen. And we'd have to trade someone for the spot. Probably a good ol' pass here.

Holmberg will be our permanent 3c and be very effective as soon as next season. That leaves us with 2 LW and D to potentially sort out. We'll we have Robertson, Knies, and potentially steeves to fill that hole. On D we have Reilly, Liljegren, Sandin long term with potentially Niemela, Villeneuve, and timmins as well. I think a shutdown RD for the long term to play with Reilly and replace brodie eventually will be necessary. I'd target Parayko.

I’d like either Puljujarvi or Nino. Nino is a great fit.

Priority should be a centre though

Puljujarvi would be a really good buy low option.

I like Holmberg and he'll likely be a Kampf replacement next season, but the Leafs could use a big boost down the middle for the 3rd line. The problem is with the Blues and the Canucks starting to win a bit more lately, the options might be scarce. Toews could become a real option.
