If Pittsburgh would retain a little on his contract, that wouldn’t be bad. Thing is, I can see/want Connor Brown returning for the third line this off-season. Local kid who loved being here, he’s coming off a major surgery that is keeping him out of the lineup for Washington all year… He’ll probably be pretty cheap this off-season.
I'd love this.

I completely forgot about Brown and I had no idea he's out for the year.

He's easily my top target to sign this off-season.

Scott Laughton is who I’d target as a 3C. 28 years old with four years remaining at 3 AAV, good for 30+ points, decent physicality, can play on both special teams.

I don't know if the Flyers in their current mindset of hockey building would part with him. They will very likely try to dump the players that don't fit Tortorella's coaching vision and they will build towards next season with their "core". Just like Columbus and Vancouver, Philly is in such a weird state of retooling due to terrible managing.

He's also very average for a 3M player and that's tough to fit in a capped out team, although I do think he's pretty solid as well.

Torn ACL unfortunately. But definitely the guy I’d want to sign this off-season. Knies and Brown on the third line sounds real good. Just gotta find a good center to play with them.

If we were to go for Chychrun, Bjugstad would be a great pick up for for 3C / Bottom 6 depth.

Sandin + Robertson + 1st for Chychrun + Bjugstad

Then a slight upgrade on Kerfoot, someone with a little more scoring touch. See what you can get with packaging a 3rd + Anderson(?).

Domi having a good season with Chi. Domi 25% for Kerfoot, 3rd, Anderson.

Bunting - Matthews - Nylander
Domi - Tavares - Marner
Engvall - Bjugstad - Jarnkrok
ZAR - Kampf - Malgin

Rielly - Brodie
Chychrun - Liljegren
Giordano - Holl
Benn - Timmins

Murray
Samsonov

if the team continues to play as they have and we dont have any significant injuries I would expect the front office to get maybe a depth Dmen(something around a late round pick) and a 3 line center is our most glaring hole. beyond that your moving to many futures. a trade for a top 4 Dmen will probably take place next summer.

That's what I think will happen as well. I just don't see the Leafs going after an expensive defenseman.

I think Horvat fits exactly what we need. From London, knows Marner very well, a capable scorer that plays very good 2-way. Plenty of intangibles. Can flip to the LW when in need.

EDIT: Also with Timmins acquired, I think the Leafs have plenty of defensive depth going forward. It seems unlikely they need to acquire another one.

I've thought about Bjugstad, and then checked out his face-off winning percentage and saw it is worse than Kerfoot.
More physical.

Much lower cap hit, but makes more money than Kerfoot. Both UFA.

Maybe you could do a Kerfoot for Bjugstad straight up?

Alright, a little slower at work today. I tried to do something to help the team along. 3 seems like a lot of trades...the Engvall one feels like it would need to be sooner rather than later in order to reduce the necessity of making so many deals close to/on the TDL day.

I welcome all feed back guys, just ask it's constructive;

Note: You could sub out AA for Domi, same salary.

I'd rather 23' 1st and 24' 1st + one of Robertson/Sandin than Robertson+ Sandin + 23' 1st for Chychrun (Also throw in Bjugstad as well)

With the goalies currently holding the fort, and a return to health on our blue line, it should help prevent desperation trades for D that always end in an overpay.

Having said that, RHD remains a need, and if a viable trade for a long-term piece presents itself, it's still something that needs to get done.

Benn has been a pleasant surprise, and it would be incredible if Timmins could have steady run of good health that allows his considerable potential to be realized with us, but we have seen Holl struggle and he clearly belongs on the 3rd line. We've gambled and lost on Muzzin's health, and as spectacular as Gio has been, he is 39 years old and should be load managed carefully, as he will be crucial in the playoffs.

RHD doesn't need to be a home run, but it needs to be a solid add that will be on our roster. I think we could even afford to take a younger RHD that we identify has a strong potential but still needs developing.

All in all, relieved that we seem to be overcoming multiple significant challenges without having been held hostage in trades out of desperation. We still can and should strengthen our RHD situation though.

I love the idea of Dvorak at 3C. But I don't see him being available for a price I'd want to pay (or being available at all for that matter.

Saw some Habs fans complaining about him the other day and saying he's available.

They do have Suzuki, Dach, Evans and probably Beck next year.

I think they messed up trading a 1st for him. Not sure if they'd take Kerfoot, 3rd and a 4th (essentially a 3rd, 3rd and 4th, maybe more if they can milk Kerfoot for more than a 3rd at TDL)

I guess it's different every year in terms of value.

Yeah I don't see us doing a lot with the defensive core, it appears the defense by committee + Keefe's system is working well

Go out and get a 3C with an offensive touch. If they also have some physicality, that's even better

I would rather have Brown than Kerfoot any day.
I think Kerfoot is actually getting paid more.

Funnily enough I believe the Leafs expressed a mild amount of interest in Bjugstad during one of the last few free agency periods (though can't say for sure).

I always thought he was a very useful player.

For now, anyway. I think the obvious upgrade is at LW, not 3C. The combination of Holmberg and Kampf is working well with the occasional appearance from Kerfoot. I'd look to package Neimela, one of Anderson, Steves, or SDA, and one of Kerfoot or Engvall for an impact 2LW on a short term contract. Jarnkrok looks good in the top-6, and I think you can slot Bunting down to either 2LW or 3LW, so depending on the quality of asset you have a lot of flexibility as to where they play.
