I also don't see the point of trading Kerfoot unless there's an immediate replacement coming back

They can likely use his capspace in the offseason differently. But that's months away.

If trading Kerfoot means Robertson gets into the lineup full time, that probably makes us better by playoff time. I’d move Engvall and Jarnkrok first, but moving any one of them to open a spot would help.

What they add with the extra cap space is a bonus.

I think we are more likely to see Engvall move before him unless something of a bundle is required.

I could see Sandin getting traded before Kerfoot. I get the feeling the leafs management has soured on Sandin a little and may want to sell high(ish) in a package deal. Especially with Muzzin most likely out

I think a lot hinges on this opportunity with Rielly and Muzzin out

This team will not win a cup as constructed. We have to add to become contenders. Top 6 spoken forand will not change
Bunting matthews nylander
Knies tavares marner

Zar kampf janrok keep
So in order to be considered contenders
Its only engvall and kerfoot that has to be improved on at forward.

Also another dman is imperative

That’s speculative at best. Current Robertson absolutely not. Robertson will need to substantially grow his game for that to be the case.

Moving Kerfoot probably isn’t about Robertson though. It’s probably about a 3C. Also, Kerfoot is one of our better PK guys. If you are replacing him, you might want a PK guy. Guys like Toews, Henrique are seeing PK time this year and are likely available. Henriques cap hit is $5.9 for this year and next, so that hurts a bit. Toews question mark is if he’d resign and for a value of $5mil or less to make it affordable. RoR was mentioned early on as St Louis struggled, but they’ve gone 7-3 and are back in the playoff picture. Many people mention Jenner, who would be ideal given Cap hit and term, but I just don’t see Columbus moving him. I don’t see any other guys who might be available, who would even help.

The need for a 3C is a tbd. I’m willing to see if Holmberg continues to adapt and they work on his game. He’s not taking many face offs, and he’s been terrible when he has taken them. It’s a tall ask, to hope Holmberg can fill that spot at this point, but we’ve got a lot to gain if he can. It means it’s a controlled cap hit for now, and no assets spent.

Similarly, I’d love for Steeves and Anderson to be given shots. They’ve played tremendously well for the Marlies, and if they can translate that to the NHL, we could move Engvall, save some cap space for upgrades elsewhere. Plus, if you can call up a Marlie, fully replace an existing contract, you can move that contract for some asset before they go UFA.

Dont move the goalposts

He is 100 per cent not worth his cap of 3.5

We need a third line that can contribute more than janrok engvall and kerfoot.
He is out of his element on the second line.
Kerfoot and engvall have to go in order for us to have a third line that can contribute

It doesn't matter what his Cap hit is unless you have a use for that Cap hit.

Come up with a trade using Kerfoot's cap hit and that's where his Cap hit is important.

I'm all for trading him, more so than Engvall.

Heck, if you can make the team better I'm all for trading the top 4 Cap Hits, Tavares, Matthews, marner and Rielly.

Of course I'd want term, but they're just rentals, just different lengths of rentals.

I'm not married to any of them ...

Yes it is, but we know who definitely isn't going to help us win, and that's Kerfoot.

I've never been a Robertson fan, but he still had the potential to give us something that Kerfoot cannot. If we aren't going to use him now, trade him for what we need. He can actually fetch an impactful return.

Kerfoot is on our second PK unit, and that has more to do with Keefe and Dubas trying to shoehorn him into important roles more than him actually deserving them. Jarnkrok, Engvall, Malgin, Aston-Reece can all take his PK time with little to no decline in effectiveness.

The only reason the Jarnkrok singing made sense was that he replaced Kerfoot for cheaper. Having both - along with Engvall and Malgin - is just counterproductive.

I agree that we need another C, but acquiring one better than Kampf will be expensive. Also, Kerfoot has proven again and again he can't play centre, so moving him doesn't impact that need.

As I've said, we could move any of the swiss army knives for something impactful. I'd be fine with any of them going out.

It's no coincidence that the Leafs are trying Holmberg at centre and Kerfoot stays on the wing .. they're looking for better solutions down the middle.

I'm all for moving Kerfoot .. Heck he was on the fourth line with Holmberg and Simmonds in practice today.

I like giving Holmberg a look to see what he can do but obviously an upgrade is preferable. Doesn't have to be pricy. Just someone who is strong two-ways, is physical, and can chip in some offense.

Lars Eller comes to mind if Washington is out of a playoffs spot.

So with Duclair coming back, Panthers need to make a move cap-wise. Apparently, there is an agreement in place NOT to move Hornqvist(according to Seravalli. What if the Leafs were to send Muzzin their way, for the LTIR(etire) in exchange for something?

Holmberg's early numbers look promising with the exception of face offs.

We need at least 1 top 4D, we arguably needed 1 before Muzz got injured, so 2?

A top 6F (assuming Bunting gets on track) and a 3rd line centre.

I seriously doubt we can do all that

Rielly and Brodie will come back eventually so i'd be looking at either a physical scoring LW or a good 2way 3rd line center as my first priority

Unfortunately those guys aren't exactly thick on the ground either and tend to cost a fortune

I hope he has value to be the main piece going back for a top 4 that addresses some of the deficiencies on the backend.

if I have the cap correct Florida currently has 85.2 mill in cap among it's players which is allowed because Duclair at 3 million allowed them to exceed the cap to 85.5 thus cap compliant. however if you add Muzzin's 5.6 it would push there cap hits up to 90.8 million and if Duclair came off LTIR there Cap limit would be 88.1 million so therefore it doesn't work because they would still be required to move 2.7ish in cap to be compliant.

While I love the ambition, I think adding 4 quality pieces is a bit of a stretch. But if we can add the 2 main pieces (a top 4 D + top 6 forward) this would be ideal. I think Sandin/Holl (although not great) are fine as #6/7 d-man as long as they play with a legit top 4 D that can pick them up. But we definitely need that big top 4 d-man and a top 6 forward. Murray and Samsonov remaining a good level and healthy is also very important so we don't need to put prospect capital into a goalie. Just those 2 guys being good is a huge help.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner

Oh it's a big list, not one I like to be honest. No way to do it all.

Maybe Knies comes in and adds secondary scoring at least.

I wonder if people feel the need for a 3C because of concerns over how long JT can play the 2C slot so may need a 3C who can step up when needed.

I think they need a Muzzin replacement if he is out long term/is retiring essentially. Don't see how they progress far without him or another physical defensively strong too 4D
In that situation I would say move Nylander to 2C and JT to 3C. Wingers are cheaper and I think Nylander can run his own line easily.

hold your butts, ladies, I've got it all figured out. 10 team trade:

We have a closet Habs fan here!

I think they would be satisfied with any one of Beauvillier, or a first, or Odelius for Edmundson. All three? A good scorer plus a defenceman who's 11 years younger and probably better (and I like Edmundson) plus a probably mid first pick, all for about $1.5M cap hit (less the hit of whoever you replace with Beau).

This is, of course, the worst possible time to trade for a defenceman, as every GM knows we're desperate because of all the injuries.

Plus, we have lots of cap space only until our injured players start returning, and no roster spots.

Kerfoot + Sandin (+ Pick?)

For

Gavrikov + Nyquist @ 50%

We might have to throw in our conditional 2nd/3rd that we gave Arizona in the Nick Ritchie trade. Columbus gets whatever pick is leftover.

Ottawa recently in a similar position and decided to ride out with internal depth because market was too expensive. Perhaps if by some miracle Timmins does well in his debut we might do the same.
