And yeah generally if a pick ends up getting protected, it is unprotected the next year. I don't recall ever seeing one that is protected in multiple years. So I assume you are correct

EP40 is more talented but I would have traded him before Miller, despite their ages whatever who cares what year they were born. If two players skill levels are comparable I want the guy who engages more consistently physically and emotionally in games every time. The Canucks have been a poorly run franchise ever since Mike Gillis left. The Alvin and Tocchet hype train is nearly fully derailed for Vancouver fans.

I think a big part of it, is what's your window. If your window is like the next 3 years? Miller all day. If your thinking "Be competitive now, and be serious favourites in 5-8 years" (for whatever the reason, a lot of young prospects, or a younger roster you're hoping to mature a bit/develop more at the pro level), you gotta go with Pettersson. That decision obviously changes if the ages were the same (in which case I absolutely agree with you, go for the guy more physically/emotionally engaged over the guy who is a bit more skilled).
 
LA currently imploding, VAN likely to get worse before they get better. Once Bahl and Zary are back we might be able to go on a run too

Feels like the Canucks only gave in and moved Miller because we made a trade. They’re substantially worse today than yesterday. I like our chances more to make the playoffs now
 
Fully anticipate the rangers pick falling 13th exactly then sliding to 2026 where the pens use it to draft McKenna

I'm not really sold on LA as a contender but they've had a weird schedule. They've played 11 more road games than home games already and they're a very good home team. 15-3-1 in LA. I expect when all is said and done they'll be firmly in 3rd in the division and we'll be battling it out for the wild card like we are now
 
Dallas giving up a 1st+4th(potentially 3rd) for Granlund and Ceci makes me dislike the Tanev return even more. Definitely skewed by the fact I'm not high on Grushnikov at all but I feel like we should have been able to get a 1st rounder for him for sure. I know the org was/is high on gru but would have preferred a better pick out of that one for sure
