I'm thinking more of a veteran defenseman who we know can play in the NHL, I like the Timmins addition but not sure if he's NHL quality or not. That's what I think will happen as well. I just don't see the Leafs going after an expensive defenseman.
I think Horvat fits exactly what we need. From London, knows Marner very well, a capable scorer that plays very good 2-way. Plenty of intangibles. Can flip to the LW when in need.
EDIT: Also with Timmins acquired, I think the Leafs have plenty of defensive depth going forward. It seems unlikely they need to acquire another one.
I'm also someone who like Monahan as a third line center, but it's a good year with Horvat/Toews/O'Rielly all as potential higher end centers on the trade market as probably 3 of these teams probably doesn't make the playoffs.
