No, LTIR doesn’t add cap space

The benefit of adding him is no cap in the playoff. So he can be activated off LTIR once the playoff starts.
But he has to be added to the roster and fit under the cap before going on LTIR. So it doesn't work

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the condition on this year's first-round pick is the latest of the two first-round picks the Rangers have, their own or Dallas', the Blues get the later of the two. The 2024 fourth-rounder becomes a third-rounder if the Rangers make the playoffs this year.

Just put him on the LTIR til the playoffs and give Woll a chance as the backup. Would really help with some cap issues.

It would be incredible for us, if Woll could come in and show he's a quality NHL player... resign Samsanov, move Murray...

Top G, big, tough D, skill and grit and deep up front. It will be interesting to see how the Devils fair against them. I'll take the Rangers in 6.
Unless Carolina ponies up for Meier I think NYR makes it out of the metro again

Even then do you trust Andy to win a game #7 ?? They have had lady luck on their side since they wrote that letter to the fans and the GM and coach were fired for not being on board.

With the Tarasenko deal now completed, you would have to think we'd be able to grab Bertuzzi for a pretty good deal. Thinking a 2nd Round Pick and a prospect.

Retroactively put Matthews on LTIR and sit him for a few extra games. His timeline already has him missing 6
Yup, that would be the only way.

From my POV, I just don't understand why the Leafs would want to add a player coming off a serious injury for the playoffs who has 6 career goals in 65 playoff games.

That's the part I am having the most trouble with.

I don’t understand why we couldn’t trade for Nyquist, place Matthews on LTIR retroactively, and use Nyquist’s cap space at the deadline, like we are with Muzzin. What am I missing here? Sorry, I guess I don’t know the in’s and out’s of LTIR.

Rangers just did Dubas and others GMs a huge favor
They did their fans a huge favour. They were already an exciting team to watch, especially at MSG. After they beat Calgary in probably the best game of the season, Lafreniere said they are going to bring it up another gear. We are going in for some fantastic hockey come April.

So a 1st was given up as well as a 4th (that will undoubtedly become a 3rd) and a nothing prospect.

Wondering if you make a similar deal, but you up the prospect (not to Knies level, but to way better than Skinner level) if you could eliminate that conditional 4th or even downgrade the 1st to a 2nd.

I hate trading 1sts for rentals, regardless who the player is.... but it's also the Rangers who screw up basically every 1st round picks development, so might as well let it fly. Tank is still a great player and they could use a top-6 RW.

I like it for the Blues. Grab what's likely an early 20s pick and a mid-pick for a rental and meh 3rd pair defenseman. The Blues are the polar opposite of the Rangers with their prospect development so I expect this to be a great pick too in a stacked draft.

Carolina is really good, with or without Meier.

So either a rental that won't cost much or a player with control which opens up the 1st round pick or Knies conversation.
Thats fine by me.
Hopefully Blues hold firm on their price for ROR and Dubas can pivot as a result

I could see them taking a chance on 2nd + prospects before he comes back, if he comes back and looks even worse after the broken foot they risk not even getting that. 1st + pair of 2nds + some B prospects for Tarasenko, ROR, and Barbashev is enough ammo to move the Rangers pick into the teens in a deep draft. If there’s someone they like in the top 10, their pick + whatever they can move the Rangers pick up to could be enough.
