Regarding the whole Nyquist situation, if Dubas traded for him, could he place him on LTIR until the playoffs and gain his $5.5M in cap space to use at the trade deadline?

For all the past kicks at the can, was it our top six that couldn’t score, or was it more about ONLY the top six could?
I'd say the collective had trouble scoring in the deciding games. Of course, it isn't unreasonable to suggest that the top players will bear the brunt of the criticism when the team comes up short. Aside from that, a successful team should also be able to expect some meaningful contributions from a lesser light or two.

No, LTIR doesn’t add cap space

The benefit of adding him is no cap in the playoff. So he can be activated off LTIR once the playoff starts.

Both, mainly our top two who couldn’t maintain their regular season pace. Most of all, none of our players could do anything in elimination games except for about 8 mins when they played 6v 5 against BJs and moments here and there in Game 6 and 7 against TB.
It seems to me that our PP completely failed us, along with our goalies letting in some very untimely weak goals, no?

Oh, okay. Thanks for the clarification.

That was all you mentioned, although of course we would have to give up a lot more, and fitting them in the cap may be problematic.

But what's wrong with having a little fun? Or did you think I was serious about the virgins?
I’m all for fun as the boards can get overly pretentious.

Apologies for the tone. I don’t know you well enough to know you were kidding without the :sarcasm: at the end of your post.

Otherwise I guess I’m just preconditioned on here that rather than discuss and disagree as fans, that the intent is to put down and make fun of a differing view.

Cheers and COMMON TRADES!!!!!

Hey Podium, aren’t we able to use Muzzin’s cap space at the deadline? So why couldn’t we do the same with Nyquist?

Awwwww damn.

NYR aren’t playing man. They are going to be legitimate threats in the East.

NJD is also going to be dangerous if they snag Meier, as they are currently the favourites to do so…..
They always make things happen.

I think I honestly would prefer making a smaller move like Bertuzzi or O'Rielly as opposed to a bigger fish like Kane or Meier. Allows us to keep Knies and I think we would be better for it with more depth.

Something like:

Bunting Matthews Nylander
Bertuzzi / O'Rielly Tavares Marner
Knies Holmberg Jarnkrok
Barbashev Kampf ZAR

Gives you a little more beef up front.

LTIR allows you to exceed the cap ceiling by the AAV of the player you place on LTIR, but the total number includes the player on LTIR.

Example
The Leafs are at the cap 82 mill at the beginning of the season, Muzzins is placed on LTIR and can now spend to 87.5 mill (5.5 mill in added space)

The Leafs at 87.5 in LTIR acquire Nyquist’s 5.5 mill and place him on LTIR, they can now spend to 93 mill but have 87.5 mill committed so they don’t gain cap space and still only have 5.5 mill to spend.

*Numbers aren’t exact to keep the math a bit easier

NYI with Horvat
NYR with Tarasenko
One of CAR/NJ likely getting Meier

The Metro is loading up. You know Boston will make another big move as well
