Seravalli in his 32 predictions today predicts Anna and Olivia will sell the team this year and that the Sens will land Chychrun before the new year. Mentions Ottawa as most interest and also that the Kings are in the mix.
To add to the above, here is the actual text:

11. With renewed interest and buzz as the Sens’ rebuild bears fruit, late owner Eugene Melnyk’s daughters, Anna and Olivia, will reach an agreement to sell the Ottawa Senators franchise. Melnyk left the team to his children upon his passing on March 28, 2022.

22. The Ottawa Senators will trade for Jakob Chychrun before the New Year, ending what feels like a year-long pillow fight between Chychrun and the Coyotes after he’s made it abundantly clear he’d like to play elsewhere. The Sens have shown the most interest, with the Kings also in the mix, and he’d be a solid boost on a burgeoning backend.

Thought I'd make it a little easier for fellow HF Sens fans.

The sale of the team is the big shoe to drop so to speak and the big missing piece of info. It could/may potentially change the dynamic in Senators land. Having said all of this, I often wonder if media pundits just speculate to drive viewers to their websites (& advertising), or actually have real inside info.

After all, Severalli mentions the following, which makes it pretty clear he is just speculating:

"Fortune favors the bold, or so the saying goes.

Even conservatively handicapping a sport as unpredictable as hockey – where seemingly every season, there are two or three jaw-dropping surprises in the standings based on the bounces of a frozen vulcanized rubber disk – can leave you looking foolish.

We’re throwing conservative selections out the window. Go bold or go home.

With that, enjoy our annual tradition of public embarrassment with 32 bold predictions for the 2022-23 NHL season"

I know it might not be a popular view but I’d like the Melnyk sisters to maintain a minority stake in the team. I would like to believe their apparent social conscience would permeate the org even without being majority owners.
I think most people expect them to keep a minority stake

I don't think anyone would have an issue with them maintaining a minority stake, they seem to have a fairly good reputation so far, the only reason people seem to want a sale at this point is to bring in more wealthy ownership.

I was hesitant to think about re-signing Cat until I saw him play. Man he is a lot more dynamic without Kane than I gave him credit for.

I think if he would take 8-8.5 that is a great deal for us. Big if there.

I can't help but wonder where the money for Pinto/Sanderson will come from though.

He’s going to cost 9+ I think.

He has a much bigger track record than the other guys we signed.

Cap rumored to go up by 10 million in 2 years. That's their money right there with all the buyouts ending as well.

Cap going up and could potentially move other peices.

The sens really should go for it this year. This may the strongest we see the team with this core

I've been kind of thinking that is possible as well. If he signed somewhere in the mid 8s (using or leveraging Stutzle and Tkachuk as team comparables) I would think that's close to about as good as it would get for the Senators.

Focus should be on signing the Cat first and seeing how much $ we have left over before going for a fairly expensive Dman. If he signs for 9.5+ we are going to need to ELC the shit outta this bitch

Stutzle and Tkachuk had three RFA years left and have shown much less than Debrincat. He's getting paiiiiid, especially with the knowledge of a significant cap ceiling jump in his first UFA year.

Using Tkachuk and Stutzle as team comparables may not work out for us. ;)
Well, that could be true. The player and his agent might be influenced by team comparables perhaps, along with other wider or broader market and comparable info. I'm definitely aware that there's some upcoming cap challenges especially in 2023-24. I've built way too many spreadsheets modeling different scenarios & outcomes already. LOL.

Regarding your first sentence, yes I'm well aware of that as it was obvious. That's why my post stated words like "the best we can expect". I was pretty careful to use words that illuminated that kind of thinking or concept. Mid 8s, yes that could be optimistic if not best case.

I think Brannstrom goes the other way in a Chychrun trade. I don't see how we'd be able to retain everyone, especially if Pinto breaks out.

We just need to figure out how to make our cap work for next year since after next year we will have 4 million of dead cap being removed (ryan/murray/del zotto)
