Its all linked to wether Debrincat re-sign or not
If not we could trade him back home for someone like Hronek for example
Then the right side looks completely different

We don't "need" to, but you're asking for trouble if you don't carry an extra, particularly for road trips.
To fit everybody in it may be the way to go. Sometimes you will need to dress 18 or 19 players but then you can use emergency recalls which don’t count against the cap.

It's completely redundant to aquire Chychrun if they're planning on letting Zub walk. Hopefully they just don't do anything stupid here.
Unless Dorion is trying to save his job. Acquire Chychrun, keep Zub for this year, blow your brains out at the trade deadline, make the playoffs, clean up the mess of losing Zub next summer.

There are other ways to get it done, going with a low cost backup goalie (Sogaard) and trading Joseph could be enough if both JBD and Thomson are used on the roster next year in place of Holden and Hamonic. We'd have to bridge Pinto to keep his cost down to around what Joseph currently makes though.

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
DeBrincat-Stützle-Giroux
Greig-Pinto-Sokolov/Crookshank/Jarventie
Kelly-Kastelic-Watson or equivalent
Cheap extra like Brassard or Hawryluk

Chabot-Zub
Chychrun-JBD
Sanderson-Thomson
Cheap extra like Larsson

Forsberg
Sogaard/Hellberg ect.

With DeBrincat at 8.5, Pinto at 2.95, Zub at 4.5 and JBD at .900, that comes in around 83 even. It gets complicated the next year as Sanderson will need an extension but a lot of dead cap comes off.
I had something similar per below. Formenton, Motte and Joseph were casualties (not resigned, or let go) in this version. One thing I noticed though is there not a lot of RW prospects in our system.

You can always find a UFA option like Motte to fill a spot, also it's not nearly as big of a deal to have a LW play the right wing position.
Ya, I wasn't saying it was a problem. Like you say, there's different solutions. It was an aside and an observation that I found interesting.

I think we will move Debrincat for a top 4 Dman too. Comparing to Barzal's contract, he going to demand north of $9.5M if he has another 40 goal season. We won't have money to sign him and Zub, Pinto, Sanderson, Greig, a starting goalie, etcc..the cap is flat for at least another two years.

Cap shouldn’t be a problem after next season 2023/24

If we have a choice between re-signing DeBrincat to a 9M x 8YR deal or trading him and using the assets and some of the resulting cap space to acquire a top 4 D, I'd rather we trade him.

Been saying for awhile that if we want to be successful long-term as a team on a budget we need to do it like the Preds - with a clear #1 goalie and a fantastic D in front of him, rather than trying to outscore teams with a stacked forward group.

Screw the budget. I’m hoping fans show up and we are a cap team as we move into a new building and raise the banner.

Almost everything the Ottawa front office has done since the trade indicates that they intend to sign DeBrincat, including Dorion parading Timmy onstage to ink his 8 year extension in full view of #12 (you think that was an accident? "look how badly our young stars want to stay in Ottawa, hint hint")

For better or worse I agree.

I think our position of strength is now at C, particularly if Greig and Pinto continue to progress.

Not that I wan t it to happen but I think if Pinto reaches his potential it will be a C who moves out to save money. Sadly it could be Norris.

Only time will tell, but I think at some point our D will have to improve by a fair margin.

If the Sens actually pony up Greig + 1st for Chychrun I'll be very upset.

Not because that's unfair value for a young top 4 D but because it probably means the negotiations with Zub haven't gone well and he's likely leaving, which means after this season we'll be only slightly better off on D at a tremendous cost in young assets and futures.

What about Greig for Hague?

I'm sure former Wheat Kings owner and GM McCrimmon was pissed when Greig got snagged one spot before the Knights picked in 2020.

Hague isn't as good as Chychrun but he's young, will be cheaper, and seems like he could breakout.

If someone can explain me how ltir work on cap space. Why we can do like all the team above cap space. Just add contract on ltir, no ?

If the negotiations with Zub are going that poorly then we should simply use Zub as a piece to get Chychrun.

Sure
Let’s say cap is set at 80 million.

Team has a cap hit of 77 million.
Player with an 8 million dollar salary gets an 8 week injury.

Player has to miss 10 games AND 24 days to be placed on LTIR.
So day 25 player is on LTIR for about 5 weeks.

77 + 8 = 85 million
85 - 80 = 5 million.

So after day 25 And 10 games missed, you have 5 million in cap room for 5 weeks. Then need to be under cap again when player is back on roster when healthy.

There is NO cap savings/accrual when on LTIR.

If teams cap hit is 70 million, then there is zero benefit on going on LTIR.

I am not sure if this will happen, but I wonder if the Leafs end up putting Wayne Simmonds on waivers, do the Sens end up claiming him?

I am just thinking that Giroux is really close friends with Simmonds so I could see him going to Dorion and DJ Smith and advocating they claim Simmonds. It did seem like part of the reason for the Brassard PTO was because it was something Giroux advocated so maybe he would push for the Sens to claim Simmonds if he ends up on waivers.
