Cap rumored to go up by 10 million in 2 years. That's their money right there with all the buyouts ending as well.
Yes, however the cap ceiling next year (2023-24) is just $83.5 m. They'll have to be compliant next year, so that is the challenge. Details. First things first.

I think Brannstrom goes the other way in a Chychrun trade. I don't see how we'd be able to retain everyone, especially if Pinto breaks out.

Yes, the 3rd pairing kid with high upside on a super cheap contract really needs to to the other way lol.

That makes him valuable.

Also, Dorion can then say that he indirectly traded Stone for Chychrun.

I like Brannstrom, but he's a high quality piece I'd rather part with than Grieg or Pinto. I don't think JBD or Thomson cuts it.

That's what I was thinking as well. It makes perfect sense to trade him at this point as a piece going to Arizona for Chychrun.

Along with Zaitsev, it might be needed. I assume Dorion wants to keep Chabot, Zub, Sanderson, Chycrun on the back end and the current top-9 in tact next season.

I truly believe that if we acquire Chychrun, it's because Zub will be gone.

Like some, I have fallen out of favor of Chychrun because of injury concerns. Isn't he missing first 15 games or something this year as well?

Answer is to keep Zub and ride with what we have internally. Make a big time trade when needed and right fit is available.

I too think Joseph likely cap casualty next off-season and Greig takes his spot full-time. I also foresee Thomson full time as top 4 RD either this year or next with us making a deadline deadline for a big boost on D this trade deadline as well.

Make no mistake, we will definitely go for a deep run and add necessary moves at trade deadline if we in firm playoff spot by the time TDL rolls up.

Sure, many offence oriented defensemen like Brann that are liabilities in their own end show great promise by racking up 2 goals in their first 116 NHL games. Extrapolated, it would take him just 2,784 games to reach the 48 goals Paul Coffey scored in a single season.
Many Cup contenders count on guys who look like they couldn't do a push up to defend the front of their net in the playoffs, like,,,,,hmmmm, drawing a blank here. Maybe there were a few in the 1930s.

Yeah but he was advocating trading him so we could clear cap space, not because he's a valuable trade piece.
