Don't you guys think it's silly that in such a beautiful sport such as hockey, IMO the most skilled sport in the world, guys are employed on teams just so that they can goon it up and forces other teams to have guys to defend their roster? It seriously hurts the credibility of the sport for me. Guys shouldn't be on rosters just to cheap shot other players and start fights if they can't play the game.

I'm not sure why Falk isn't the guy to jump in then. He played on the pairing with DZ, he's there for toughness and that's his only up on DZ or Moore.

AV likes to sit players to get them to respond. He did it with Zucc, he did it with DZ, and now with John Moore. We have just enough flexibility and depth in D for AV to scratch DZ and Moore here and there to get them to respond.

Falk is in there because he's the definition of a serviceable D. If we had depth issue, he'd be in there in the same capacity as Eminger. We don't have depth issues outside of AV wanting to bench Moore/DZ.

He's there to provide physicality and grit. His 3rd pairing minutes with either one of the two "scratchees" aren't exactly abundant.

If his badly timed engaging of opposition in our zone along the boards is what his physicality is about, then that's certainly not worth it.

I don't know this for certain but I would guess he was on the ice on that DZ hit since he plays the 3rd pairing with DZ.

If he doesn't jump in on a head shot, then what's the freaking point?

Yeah but you compared the 2.

Yes, strictly their physical attributes, but since we're on it, until his most recent call up, Kreider was a perimeter player, who was not engaged physically, and relied on his speed and shot (quick release on his wrist shot) to get by at the NHL level. Couple that with the fact he wasn't defensively responsible and you got a player bouncing back and forth from the AHL/NHL.
Now it seems like he's using ALL his physical attributes to his benefit.

Sestito's comments remind me of what Carcillo said after he fought Gabby: "I don't know who on that line would have been able to help him."

I hate goons like Sestito, but unfortunately some of them still play in this league and they are capable of doing stupid things to opposing players. A few of them may take liberties knowing that Dorsett is our only fighter. Rangers have to stay on their toes, we lucked out that Del Zotto walked away injury-free.

My pining for a tougher lineup is more about Boston than it is about a dumbass like Sestito. My point was also that if freaking Vancouver is more "tough" than we are... oh boy.

Maybe we should set Boyle up with an Olympic fighter of some sort during Christmas break. :sarcasm:

I mean, why not get someone down to MSG training center one day and instill a bit more toughness into them? Is it that silly of an idea? It's not going to transform our players into fighters but at least they'll handle their physically better and play with physicality more comfortably.

It's amazing we beat the Canucks 5-2, having a 4-0 lead midway through the game and it's 5-1 before a phantom call and the Rangers aren't tough enough to deal with the Canucks. They're tough enough to deal with them on the scoreboard that's all that matters. Some of you guys really need to switch to boxing or pro wrestling.

Your missing the point...all of the successful teams have a balance...we are balanced at all and we will be a .500 team and miss the playoffs.

What are the lotto ticket numbers? This is ridiculous. How do you know we'll be .500 and miss the playoffs? We likely aren't going far but I'll be shocked if we don't make the playoffs in this division and seeing as we will likely play the Caps, I won't be surprised at all if we win a round. You using opinions as fact is hilariously arrogant.

You know what is hilarious to me...how Rangers get ragged dolled and how as a Ranger fan that doesn't bother you..

A player skates by you and challenges your entire team and there isn't one guy who can do anything about itm

There are different tier of aggressive players...Falk for as much as I like his game isn't a very good detractor of someone like Sessito or Kassian...don't need to touch on Boyle or Dorsett.

But you don't care about that...you want us to trade for Brian Campbell because that will put us over the top

Short memories. Boston manhandled us yesterday and in last year's playoffs. A victory of a mediocre Vancouver team that's 2500 miles away from home on a road trip does not equal problems solved. We're 13-12...

Seriously? Everyone's putting down a great win because of a piece of garbage like Tom Sestito? Stop. Just stop.

Would it have been better if McI was in the lineup and KO'ed Sestito, as opposed to Dorsett fighting him? It wouldn't have made a difference. Sestito still tried to take Del Zotto's head off like the worthless goon he is. This is getting ridiculous. We obviously need a heavyweight to fight bad mother****ers like Sestito :shakehead

Dalton Prout fought Milan Lucic yesterday pretty much to a draw. He's a righty right side defenseman and he's not old. I don't know how big he is to Columbus's future plans but they have Jack Johnson, James Wisniewski and Ryan Murray also playing their right side. Fairly deep enough in defense. Prout is not a frequent fighter but he's pretty tough. Would be a good player for the Rangers to target.

Prout is not a frequent fighter but he's pretty tough--earlier this year he fought Chris Neil to a draw as well. He's at least as tough as Bieksa and should be more than enough for a mediocre heavy like Sestito. Would be a good player for the Rangers to target.

We dominated boston earlier this season, but lost because we couldn't score. Despite being "manhandled" the other day, we should have won the game.

Why the F is this in the TRADE RUMOR thread?? Any rumors to discuss today? Did Uncle Al make anything up this weekend?

Wish we had a format where we could just "like" a post.

Do you remember when Jagr was a Ranger and we had no muscle on this team...Flyers and just about everyone else wanted to ass **** the Rangers, we claimed Orr and all the nonsense ended...

Let's stand pat add another point shot and we can watch all the flying elbows to Nash's head and we will make them pay on the powerplay...

id rather have a complete player like Backes, Ladd, E.Kane someone that can and will fight when needed.. whats the point of having a goon like Mashinter play 4 mins a night.. it does not fill a need at all. its like playing with 11 forwards... if that Rangers want a goal scorer and a guy with grit, get someone like E.Kane or S.Hartnell or Wayne Simmonds.. those type of forwards the Rangers should be targeting not some 4 mins George Parros type player..

or the elbow to McDonagh's head and no one does anything..

it shows that they dont care.. this team is heartless sometimes :help:

This may be a little off topic but it occurred to me that if Brassard could get a lot stronger with his upper body, he might be a lot different player.

We've been giving up about 2 goals a game since the disastrous start.

Yes, our defense is fine, far from a concern.

Boston?

Last year's playoffs vs. Boston? It was men against boys.

No, I don't want "goons". I want guys like Backes, Prust, Clutterbuck, Ladd, etc...

Is Lucic a "goon"?

We had/have guys like that. Callahan, we had Dubinsky, Prust, Rupp, not sure what youre talking about.

Who would you give up for E Kane? Dont say Del Zotto. You will have to add alot with DZ and the cost isnt worth it

We were completely outplayed in the 2nd and 3rd. We should've lost by more than we did. I'll agree on the earlier game this year, but my concern is more playoff oriented than the regular season. We weren't close in last year's 5 game exit.

Really? I didn't see Prust, Dubi, or Rupp in our playoff loss to the Bruins last year. What are YOU talking about?

Callahan isn't that type of player.

Last year we didnt have them, but this board makes it sound like we NEVER had these guys, then when we DO have these guys and they are inconsistent people complain about not having enough scoring. Its BS. Work with what we got for now and improve later. We won scored 5 goals and won, stop
