I like how you draw all these garbage conclusions from one fight against the best fighter in the NHL, and 6 minutes a night for two game.

You can see him being a good third pair enforcer? Good to know. I can see him being a good 2nd pairing guy that puts fear in anyone that crosses into the defensive zone.

Seriously?

I'm saying he looked no where near NHL ready.. Which by the way, the coaches probably thought as well considering he was sent back down. But hey, maybe you're right... As I've always said regarding the kool-aid, I hope those drinking it are right, at least once every ten years anyway..

At least Brooks knows how valuable McDonagh is.

It seems inexplicable, but Slap Shots has heard continued chatter about the Canadiens’ willingness to trade Max Pacioretty, the 25-year-old winger who apparently isn’t Jacques Martin’s ideal.

Of course the Rangers are interested, but unless the Blueshirts are willing to re-gift Montreal with Ryan McDonagh (and they’re not dealing McDonagh, one of the most untradeable players in the league), there is little reason to believe the clubs have a match, and no, the Habs don’t seem to be a potential landing spot for Michael Del Zotto.

We’re told the Islanders and Flyers are taking serious runs at Pacioretty, who has a club-friendly contract worth $4.5 million per that runs through 2018-19, but Montreal GM Marc Bergeron isn’t prone to dealing him in the East — if he’s willing to deal him at all after the roster freeze melts after Friday night’s games.

"( one of the most untradeable players in the league)"

Really? Because I don't think he would make it in my top 50..But I guess I'm missing something here as well..

Montreal will be asking too much for Pacioretty. We say we'll give them Del Zotto, they balk and counter with McDonagh. Maybe they'll be interested in Staal?

I highly doubt the Kings trade Martin Jones over Scrivens

Him having no upperbody strength is just wrong in every way. He strength there is why he was able to hang in there with, again, one of the best fighters in professional hockey.

Nobody is calling him Shea Weber II so I don't know what kool aid you're talking about. Calling him a 2nd pairing D in the future is very reasonable.

He's actually pretty close to NHL ready, not nearly as far as you think. He needs to work on his lower body strength, that's true. But he's a very good skater for his size, and his puck moving ability is getting much more up to NHL level.

You haven't watched his AHL play I assume, you should catch some.

Heard that Detroit and The Rangers are in trade talks. Nothing definite but they are IMO a good match. Will post more details if I get any. Interesting.

That's definitely interesting but I can't think of too many assets that Detroit has that I would really go after, as far as guys they'd be willing to give up.

I agree. Detroit was one of the teams I felt was a good match for the Rangers. Lots of NHL ready prospects. 3rd-4th line types which this team needs. Detroit also needs help on defense badly. They can't stop anybody.

Maybe Girardi and Boyle

for

Sproul, Jurco, Samuelsson and Cleary

Rangers will have to take those 2 back to make the money work. They are both UFA's at the end of the season. I absolutely think Detroit would sign Girardi before the season ends to a 5 or 6 year contract. I believe they would sign Boyle also. Sproul is a right handed defenseman which would fill a big need for us.

The Rangers have been trying to make a trade since October. Its almost January. The season is moving fast. I was watching the Knicks yesterday. Mike Breen said something is missing with that team. No competitive spirit. That's the same issue with the Rangers. The Knicks shouldn't be a top team in the NBA but they should be a playoff team in their horrible conference. The Rangers are the same way. Both teams suck and tough to watch. You expect something to go wrong. Its like there is some other power at play here. Dolan sits next to the Knicks bench. You can see him when the play is at the left side of the court. He was barely at his seat yesterday. Dolan was checking his iPhone when he was at his seat. He knows it a worthless cause. Dolan was probably playing a game on his phone:)

I agree, no competitive spirit, no sense of urgency, teams with lesser talent at least compete hard, not this team

So the answer is to, yet again, go out and find the best option available in FA? You really think that's a good option? Doing nothing would be a better option at this point.

So ignoring FA is an option to you? Brilliant.

Please don't put words in my mouth. My point was the team shouldn't be looking to fill in major roles via free agency. If they want to go out and get a Grabovski or Raymond, by all means, go out and get a player that. But they should be avoiding players with miles on them looking for big contracts like Phaneuf and Stastny. It's a pretty obvious recipe for disaster, as has been proven over (Drury and Gomez) and over (Redden) and over (Richards) again.

And Joe Thornton too. Can't keep falling for these traps.

Are we allowed to make a trade during the roster freeze?

See below. Joe Thornton would be the same old song and dance. Stastny has been in this league for 6 years now, playing a mostly finesse game. Richards had been in the league for 10 years before he came to the Rangers. Drury was already 30. Gomez was 28, and wasn't bad for the time he was here. We're very fortunate Gomez hit a wall after we traded him.

I just don't see how signing Stastny would be comparable to Richards, Gomez, or Drury, besides what it would cost to sign him.

I don't think so. A roster freeze means no player movement until after the holidays, whether it be via trade, or call ups or demotions.

DeKeyser! :sarcasm:

Maybe if they do get a trade done, I hope it's done during 24/7's run. Wouldn't mind seeing Holland's office when he's on the phone with Sather

Yea wings have a lot of young talent and they are the type if team that never makes a deal but likely should to shake things up.

I've heard the name Tatar, but what does he project to be?

And who is Almquist?

High end second line winger/good first line winger. Very good playmaker, slick hands, good speed, great release. Kid gets his nose dirty, too, he goes to the net. Scored the tying goal late for the Wings last night on a rebound in front.

Almquist is a solid defensive prospect, he's improved every year since being drafted. I don't know a ton about him, but he has solid NHL upside.

Sather has been trying to make a trade since October. They will trade Del Zotto for another similar player like Jake Gardiner. AV can't stand Del Zotto and Carlyle can't stand Gardiner. A change of scenery trade for both players. It won't make much of an immediate impact.

Most of the teams are pressed up against the cap. The Rangers will need to retain salary or take on salary to make a deal.
