The FO has a ton of huge decisions to make in the next two months. I don't envy their position.

Swap Almquist with Sproul and I might give it a look. Hard to deal two important roster players and only get one in return though.

I'm also a bigger fan of Nyquist than Tatar.

I think Nyquist is a better player, but I doubt the Wings move him. Tatar I think could be somewhat obtainable if the right package were going Detroit's way. I'm very high on both of them, though.

Sproul would make that an ideal package. Don't think Detroit would be interested in moving him, though.

Right, I just don't think we could move two guys like that for a decent NHler with upside, an average defensive prospect, and what looks like a mid/late 1st rounder. If you broke them up, I'd be willing to bet that the return would be sweeter.

Most people would envy those that receive 7 figure salaries for being utter failures. Next up: obamacare.

There are quite a few young players around the league that the Rangers should be targeting. They might have better luck picking up guys who have slipped down the depth chart a bit than trying to pick up 1st rounders. Roll the dice on a Brett Connolly or Alex Burmistrov type. Connolly won a spot in training camp, but was sent down because he didn't require waivers. His confidence is shot. Burmistrov and Noel can't get along. Give him a fresh start in a puck possession system with a players coach.

I'll take Connolly. No thanks to Burmistrov

I'm completely on board with moving Girardi right now. Guy has high value, is set for a big contract, and doesn't fit our new identity.

Frankly, if we can get the same or more from Girardi rather than MDZ, I say move Girardi. MDZ is a lot younger.

And this portion of the article is why Garrioch lacks credibility -

Apparently, the Rangers are willing to talk about anybody on their roster with the exception of Rick Nash, Henrik Lundqvist and Chris Kreider.

I'm sure the Rangers are willing to talk about moving Ryan McDonagh, Bruce. Good call.

:shakehead

If you move Girardi, then you better be getting back a guy who is or will be a first-pairing defenseman. Stralman is a second-pair, McIlrath right now is at best a third-pair and if we get Franson, he's a second-pair.

If we can get a big return, why not? People wanna trade Hank but not Talbot? Why? Lol

We finally have a cheap and sort of young back up goalie who really can win games for us why trade him? Of course if we get a big return but no one is going to pay up for a goalie who has very little experience.

the people who want to trade Hank are ridicilous. The people who want to trade Talbot are insane. Why would you entertain the idea, when you know that if you trade him, you have to start over again.

Have to start what over again?

Please don't put words in my mouth. My point was the team shouldn't be looking to fill in major roles via free agency. If they want to go out and get a Grabovski or Raymond, by all means, go out and get a player that. But they should be avoiding players with miles on them looking for big contracts like Phaneuf and Stastny. It's a pretty obvious recipe for disaster, as has been proven over (Drury and Gomez) and over (Redden) and over (Richards) again.

Redden was a failure from day one. Due diligence was not done prior to him joining the NYR.

The other signings were not obvious disasters imo. Those acquisitions were made for relatively young, very good players at the time. They gave us good production their first few years here...

The Rangers need help all over the lineup. They need better top/bottom six players. I'm not blown away with Stasny, but Phaneuf would be a great addition.

We can and should look to add young talent, but if you're top guys aren't leading the way/and or you dont have enough of them, it puts unnecessary pressure on younger players to produce outside of their roles.
